Brierwood Men Hold Weekend Member-Member Tournament Bricrwood Golf Club held its an nual member-member tournament Saturday and Sunday, naming low gross and net winners in four flights. Straud Macrkcr and Neal McCall, competing in the third (light, were the overall low net winners with a 26-undcr-par score of 1 18. Macrkcr also recorded his first hole in one during the tournament. Using a 6-irun, he accd the 150-yard 14th hole. Overall low gross winners were Bill Shoemaker and Bill Lewis with a 4-undcr-par 140. They competed in the championship flight. Other top finishers in the champi onship flight were the Johnny Johnson team with net 126 and Ray Linder and Brian Nccnan with gross 144. Mike Evans and Carl Fox shot net 127 to tic for second with the team of Tim Evans and Don Gates. Leading the first flight were Larry Harrelson and Mike Cox with net 123. Tony Shrevc and Larry Shrcvc fired a net 1 24. Joey Stadick and Jim Stadick shot gross 153 to tic for first with the twosome of Bill Weaver and Randy Milazzo. Top finishers in the second flight were Dave Harper and Al Hicrman with net 124 and Jim Crosby and Hank Culp with gross 160. Jim Roach and Don Redding fin ished second with net 126, and Bob Tompkins and Greg Bouldin had the sccond low gross with 161. In the third flight, Macrkcr and McCall had the low net. They were followed by Emilc Vrydaughs and Dick Owens with 124. Low gross winners were Tony Maglionc and Morris Hall with 164 and Bob Brooks and Ed Rockstroh with 166. Sea Trail Men John Pointer scored 58 points to win an individual points tournament last Tuesday on the Jones course. Golfers used 75 percent of their handicaps and received 8 points for eagle, 5 for birdie, 2 for par and 1 Literacy Council Sets Golf Tournament The Brunswick County Literacy Council will hold a benefit golf tour nament Sunday, July 26, at Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club at Calabash, co-sponsored by the course. Tee times for the captain's choice event are available from 10:52 a.m. until 1 p.m., said Chairman Joe Giamalva. The entry fc c is S25 per player or $100 per team. Mixed foursomes arc welcome, and golfers can sign up in dividually to be placed on a team. The tournament field will be lim ited to 144 players, or 36 foursomes, and all proceeds will be used to help adults improve their reading skills. Golf Team Boosters Tourney Postponed The West Brunswick Golf Boost ers Tournament scheduled Saturday, June 20, at Brick Landing Plantation has been postponed by West Bruns wick Golf Coach Will Cockrcll. All entry fees and other donations have been returned pending a new date for the tournament. Cockrcll, who was recently re leased from the hospital with re stricted work instructions, plans for a late summer or early fall date. More information will be avail able at a later date. Each team of two counted two net scores on the front nine and one net score on the back nine. Second place in the top flight went to the twosome of Brcnda Causey and Toni lossi with a 102. Betty Ncal and Marion Corbin were tops in the sccond flight with an incredible round of 60. Ginny An/clone and Irene Bryant placed sccond with 96. In the third flight, Dodic Niland and Dot Frcy combined for a 99. Louise Blizzard and Jen Ward fired a 101 and placed sccond. Low putt winners in each flight were Bobbie Maples and Stadick in the first flight with 30 putts, Ncal in the sccond flight with 33 putts and Marion Rockstroh in the third flight with 31 putts. Stadick also birdied the second and sixth hole. Anzelone chipped in at the 1 3th hole and Rockstroh had a chip-in at the 14th. Calabash Veterans Walt Bencs fired a net 70 to lead the first flight in the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tourna ment last Friday at River Hills. Runncrs-up in the top flight were Herman Thomas with 73 and Bill McDavit with 75. The top finisher in the second flight was Ken Anderson with 78. On a match of cards, Jerry Falvcy took sccond with an 80 and Art McGinn placed third. This Friday's event will be a two mail low ncl tournament played at The Pearl Golf Links cast course. Sea Trail Ladies The Sea Trail Ladies Golf Asso ciation held a Nassau tournament last week, with winners recognized for the front nine, back nine and all 18 holes. Leaders in the first flight were Louisa Cilcnto with 32.5 on the front nine and Jan Rick and Robin Walters with 31.5 on the back. Overall winners included Elsie Bo lick with 68. In the sccond flight, Nancy Williams was the overall winner with 70, followed by Betty Gcescy with 73. Mary Pcnficld shot 34 on the front nine and Ann Holman had 27 on the back nine. Marie Blanda won the front nine with 39 and Jerri Moore had 39 on the back nine to lead the third flight. Ruth Kivctt had the overall low ncl of 65. Chuck Dugan, Ted Nara/inski, Rose Rciter and Marian Rockstroh shot 33 to tie the foursome of Hal Schulcr, Hilda Hall, Barbara Baxter and Esther Smith. Two other teams finished one shot back and tied for second place. Jim Bryant, Al Hierman, Martha Warehcim and Rita Dugan shot 34 to tic the group that included Roy Havcnga, Norm Soucic and Penny Coxc. On June 1 , two teams lied for first plaee in a best hall tournament at Bricrwood. Groups counted one ball on par lives, two on par fours and three on par threes. Travel League Bill Miller, Joe Giamalva, Frank Eckert and Al Dragcr fired a net 140 to win the Carolina Shores Men's Travel League tournament last Friday al Ocean Ridge Golf Club. Teams counted the one best ball on par threes, two balls on par fours and three balls on par fives. Finishing one shot back in second place was the team of George O'Connell, Vic Hahn and Matt Stack. Placing third with a 144 was Frit/ McCabe, Phil Nardocci, Joe Mc Donough and Guy Williams. Al Wright, Joe Bru/.zi and Jim Ahcarn combined for a 145 and fin ished fourth.
