Mrs. Amashus was bom in
Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 9, 191 1, the
daughter of the late Andrew and
Julipa Star/.ick Cichoski. and was
preceded in death by husband,
Anthony Edward Amashus; and a
daughter, Marion A. Smith.
She was a member of St. Mary
Catholic Church and was a member
of the Catholic Daughters of Amer
ica.
Survivors include a daughter,
Eileen Galloway of Florida; five
grandchildren; seven great-grand
children; and two sisters, Sallie
Zales and Jeannie Ramsey, both of
New Jersey.
MILDRED McGINNIS CARTER
Mildred McGinnis Carter of
Shallottc Point died June 13 in New
Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Wilmington, after a lengthy illness.
The funeral was June 16 in the
chapel of Brunswick Funeral Ser
vice, Shallottc, by the Rev. Dan
Norman and the Rev. Tracie Var
num. Entombment was in Bruns
wick Memorial Gardens Mauso
leum.
Born in Sanford on Sept. 28,
1919, she was the daughter of the
late Arthur James McGinnis and
Lclia McGinnis Smith.
She resided in Sanford until 1952,
when she moved to Shallottc Point,
where she and her husband, Ray
mond, operated Carter's Fish and
Oyster Company.
She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Patricia Carter Milligan.
Survivors include her husband,
William Raymond Carter; a daugh
ter, Mrs. Phil (Jean) Cheers; a broth
er, J.P. McGinnis of Wilmington:
and four grandchildren, Kimberly
Cheers Gore, Fort Stewart, Ga.,
Brandon Cheers, Ginger Milligan of
Shallottc and Jeffrey Milligan of
Ash.
ERNEST EUGENE CHASTAIN
Ernest Eugene Chastain of South
port died June 11 in New Hanover
Regional Medical Center, Wilm
ington. He was 59.
A memorial scrvicc was held June
15 in Wilmington National Ceme
tery by the Rev. Douglas Huff, with
full military honors accorded by an
honor guard from Fort Bragg.
He was bom in Rome, Ga., on
May 8, 1933, the son of the late
Ernest Garland and Nellie Drcnnon
Chastain. He was the widower of
Donnie Marie Chastain.
He had retired from the U.S.
Army after 21 years of scrvicc with
the 503rd and 504th Airborne
Corps, Fort Bragg, and had received
decorated commendations from the
Korean conflict and the Dominican
Republic conflict.
Survivors include three daughters,

Alice Cranmer Arlington, 88, of
South port, died June 14 at her resi
dence.
A memorial service was held June
16 at Trinity United Methodist
Church, Southpon, where she was a
member, with the Rev. P.D. Midgett
officiating. Burial was to be at a lat
er date in Northwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Arlington was born April 1,
1904, in Southpon, the daughter of
the late E.H. and Mary Elizabeth
Pcarcc Cranmer. She was a graduate
of Women's College, now the
University of North Carolina at
Greensboro, and was a retired social
worker from Guilford County De
partment of Social Services.
She and her husband, the late
Eldridgc H. Arlington, lived in
Panama and Havana, Cuba, before
she returned to Soulhport in 1946.
She was former owner and operator
of Arlington's Clothing Store and
Blanna's Dress Shop in Southport,
and with her husband, had owned
Watson's Pharmacy.
Survivors include two daughters,
Mrs. Paul (Pat) Pittcngcr and Mrs.
BJ. (Stuart) Callari, both of Soulh
port; a sister, Mary Cranmer Mint/
of Berne Village; a brother, Pearcc
Cranmer of New York City; eight
grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to
Southport Rescue Squad in lieu of
flowers.

GRAHAM SR.
Schuyler Rcnnic Graham Sr., 77,
died June 12 at The Brunswick
Hospital due to complications from
Alzheimer's disease.
A memorial service was held June
14 in Calabash Presbyterian Church,
Calabash, by the Rev. Francis
Womack.
Bom in Poughkecpsic, N.Y., Gra
ham was a World War II veteran of
the U.S. Navy. He had retired from
Marsh Furniture Co. of High Point
as a representative.
Survivors include his wife,
Marion; three sons, Schulycr Gra
ham Jr. of Skaneateles, N.Y., John
Robert Graham of Rensselaer, N.Y.,
and David Graham of North
Billcrica, Mass.; a daughter, De
borah Arnold of Dcs Moines, Iowa,
and Ocean Isle Beach; and six
grandchildren.

County assigned a new minister at
the North Carolina Conference of
The United Methodist Church.
Bishop C. P. Minnick Jr., resident
bishop of the Raleigh area, an
nounced the appointments June 13
at the conference at Methodist Col
lege in Fayclteville.
The Rev. J. Rodney Lane Jr. will
be coming to Sharon at the end of
the month from Pamlico Co
opcrative Parish. He will succeed
the Rev. Hobart W. Burnsidc Jr.,
who has been appointed pastor of
Manns Harbor in the Elizabeth City
District.
A new superintendent, the Rev.
Ruth E. Harper, has been named for
the Wilmington District, which in
cludes Brunswick County. She suc
ceeds the Rev. Samuel D. McMillan
Jr., who has been named minister of
Hayes Barton in Raleigh.
Several ministers who have
served previously in Brunswick
County received new appointments.
These include the following: the
Rev. George F. Blanchard, from St.
Matthews, Faycttcville, to West
End-Doub's Chapel, Sanford Dis
trict; the Rev. Robert J. Rudd, from
