Dirty Laundry Stolen From Parked Car At Leland Store m Someone stole S650 worth of dirty laundry from a car parked outside a Lcland convenience store Saturday night, according to a report on file at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department. The female victim told Deputy Steve Mason that she had left the clothing in a white plastic garbage bag in her car, which was parked at the D and J Mini Mart on Route 2, Lcland. Mason found no evidence of a break-in, but reported that numerous items of clothing including tops, blouses, slacks, a sweater and a dress were missing. According to other reports Hied at the sheriff's de partment Monday: ?A 17-foot Stingray boat with a 1 15-horsepower Evinrude outboard motor was stolen from behind a home off N.C. 130 cast of Shallottc sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning. The owner of the boat told Deputy Richard Long that the boat had been tied up at the dock behind his house. Long estimated the value of the boat and motor at SI 5,000. ?Someone caused an estimated S6.000 damage to a swimming pool at the end of Valley Drive in Calabash, Deputy Phil Bryant reported. Sometime Sunday night, June 7, or Monday morning, June 8, the vandals threw debris into the pool and cut patches out of its sides, the report said. ?Deputy Patti Hcwctt reported that a 25-horsepower Johnson outboard motor was stolen off a boat in Sunset Harbor over the weekend. The thief or thieves apparent ly entered a shed and cut the locks securing the motor to a boat, the report said. Hcwctt estimated the value of the motor at S2,(XX). CRIME REPORT ?A 1970 Scars aluminum john boat was taken from the back yard of a mobile home on Seashore Road in Walnut Cove sometime last week. The car, valued at $800, was later found undamaged at a body shop. ?Bryant investigated a breaking and entering and larce ny that happened at a mobile home on Long Acrcs Drive in Ocean Isle sometime between Tuesday and Sunday. Someone apparently used a screwdriver to pry open the door and removed an Electro! ux vacuum clcancr and hose valued at S650. ?Six windows valued at S670 were stolen from beneath the garage of a house under construction on Oakbark Court in Carolina Shores last week, Bryant reported. ?Sometime in the last two weeks, a brown 9,800 Btu Scars window air conditioner was stolen from a house on Waterloo Street in Seaside, Deputy Kcithan Home reported. The owner of the house said he found the air conditioner gone and the window still open. Nothing else was removed from the house. Home estimated the value of the stolen property at S5(X). ?Deputy Walker F. Moore reported that someone threw a baseball-sized rock through the front window of McGcc's Deli on Village Road in Lcland last Wed nesday night. Nothing appeared to have been taken. No damage estimate was made. ?Someone driving a dark green Volkswagon Rabbit re portedly ran over a mail box at the Go Gas scrvicc sta tion on Howe Street in Southport Thursday evening. A woman at the store told Deputy Cathy Hamilton that the car struck the mailbox at about 8 p.m. and sped off, causing an estimated $30 damage. ?Deputy Richard Long investigated a break-in and lar ceny that occurred at a residence in Ash sometime last week. The thief or thieves apparently broke the glass in the kitchen window and reached in to unlock the door. A knife, tools and clothing were taken. The total value was estimated at SI 18. ?A woman who lives on Carolina Avenue off Fay cttcvillc Road in Lcland told Deputy Brian L. Saunders that someone threw a rock at her truck Sunday afternoon at about 1 p.m. Damage to the windshield of the 1978 Chevrolet was estimated at S200. ?Hewett reported that sometime in the past two weeks a mobile home was broken into on Route 3, Shallottc, in Shell Point Acres. There was an estimated S500 damage to the glass in the front door. ?A man told Home that his eyeglasses were stolen dur ing a ball game at Waccamaw baseball field May 29. The man said he had left the glasses on his jacket and later returned to find them gone. Home estimated the value of the glasses at S225. ?Sanders reported that he responded to a burglar alarm at Oldc Fort Golf Club on N.C. 133 outside Bclvillc ear ly Friday morning and noticcd the door glass had been shattered. A search of the premises revealed several items moved but nothing stolen. There was an estimated SI 75 damage to the door. ?Someone used a shotgun to shoot out a window at the Alcoholics Anonymous building on U.S. 17 near Gris scttown last Thursday or Friday. Home set the damage at SI 75. ?Moore investigated a vandalism incident at the Bargain Box/Top Gun Video on Village Road in Leland Wednesday night, June 10. A piece of brick was thrown through the plate glass window. There was no damage estimate. ?Sgt. Gene Browning's report said a woman told him that checks were stolen from her mailbox on Route 5, Leland, on June 10. Two of the checks were later cashcd at businesses in Wilmington. ?A checkbook, driver's license and credit cards were re ported stolen from the puree of a woman at her mobile home on Route 5, Leland, last week. Moore's report said the items were stolen after the woman had a visit from a male friend. ?A Yamaha YZ 125 dirt bike was removed from a yard at the Villanova Mobile Home Park on Route 5 near Southport Friday night or Saturday mcming. Deputy Ri chard Long did not note the value of the stolen motorcy cle. ?Seven rolls of copper wire, a knife and a pair of pliers were stolen from a mobile home at Randolph Mobile Home Park in Atowah Thursday evening, Hamilton re ported. The thief or thieves apparently pushed open the front door to gam entry. The stolen items were valued at S108. ?There was an estimated S350 damage to the back door of a home on Route 2, Supply, Thursday afternoon. Hamilton reported that a crowbar was used to open the door, but nothing was found missing. SUPERIOR COURT Repeat Offender Gets 35 Years For Southport Armed Robbery A Southport man with several pri or convictions and jail terms was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday after a Brunswick County Superior Court jury found him guilty of robbery with a firearm. Rashccn Isiah Rashad, 24, also known as Michael Todd Hill, was charged in the Sept. 16 armed rob bery of the Handy Hugo's gas sta tion in Southport. He was accused of removing S20() in cash from the store while threatening the clerk with a shotgun, court rccords show. Three days later, Rashad was ap prehended in Raleigh and returned to Brunswick County, where on Dec. 12 he was indicted for armed robbery. In April, Rashad was sent to Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh for evaluation of his competence to stand trial after his court-appointed attorney, Mark Lewis, told the court that Rashad had "ceased entirely communicating" with him. Rashad was determined competent and tak en back to Brunswick County. Lewis later asked to be taken off the case after Rashad "exhibited vio lence in the Brunswick County Jail and stated that, 'I'll kill my attor ney,' (or words of like meaning)," court rccords show. Attorney Steve Yount was appointed to represent Rashad. After two days of testimony of fered by Yount and Assistant Dis trict Attorney Lee Bollinger, the jury took less than an hour to determine Rashad'sguilL In sentencing Rashad, Superior Court Judge Joe Freeman Britt noted the defendant's numerous prior pri son terms as aggravating factors. He found no mitigating evidence. In ad dition to the 35- year jail term, Rashad also was ordered to pay S417 res titution and Si, 000 in attorney fees. Yount noted an appeal of the ease to the N.C. Court of Appeals. Judge Britt refused to allow a bond for Rashad. In other Superior Court action last week: ?George Aaron Bannerman, 33, of Leland was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to 19 counts of felonious breaking and en tering, 19 counts of felonious larce ny, one charge of second-degree burglary and one charge of auto lar ceny. He was given credit for 129 days of jail time already served and ordered to pay S550 for his court ap pointed lawyer. ?John Foster McBride, 24, of Holdcn, Mo., pleaded guilty to four counts of uttering forged instru ments and was sentenced to five Deputies Average 47 Calls A Day Brunswick County Sheriff's De partment deputies answered 1,456 calls, made 304 investigations and recovered S8.660 in stolen property during May, according to the depart ment's monthly activity report. Narcotics officers seized 37 mari juana plants valued at $59,200. Of the calls, 293 were domestic in nature.
