Hughes cited 15 floats, 15 Shrine units and an all-high school band from Brunswick County as part of the spectacle. It will once again be televised by WW AY -TV Channel 3, but much of fun is being there in person. Tommy Rohbins, in charge of en tertainment, has sccurcd an impres sive lineup of musical talent. In ad dition to Band of Oz, he said July 3 waterfront entertainment, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., will feature the Rob Massingale group, playing big band, beach and top 40 music. Immediately following will be the street dance, with top 40 and beach music provided by North Tower and by local bands Magnum and Category. The July 4 waterfront entertain ment, Robbins said, will be supplied by Witness, a contemporary Chris tian youth group that tours the re gion, the local group Wild Heart, with classic rock and contemporary country, and The Embers, whom Robbins called the "kings of beach music," with nine albums to their credit. Other highlights of July 4 arc the pancake breakfast at Trinity United Methodist Church, from 7 a.m. tolO a.m., the Freedom Run at Water front Park, beginning at 8 a.m, and the 3 p.m. concert by the local Sea Notes at Southport Baptist Church. An Independence Day "must" is fireworks, and the Southport festival provides them the night of the 4th, beginning at 9 p.m. on the water front. The festival will wind up July 5 with the annual firemen's competi tion, a unique series of contests among county volunteer fire depart ments, held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Southport City Hall parking lot.
