Speak Up About Public Education Brunswick County residents with an interest in public education are being invited by the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) to participate in one of three forums on "Solutions for Schools through Partnership." The area forum will be held Jan. 14 at the Wilmington Hilton, 301 N. Water Street, with registration start ing at 8:45 a.m. The meeting will adjourn at 12:30 p m Program participants will include Julia Kron, NCAE president; Charles Coble, dean of the School of Education, East Carolina University; and a panel of educators, business and civic leaders, students and par cnts who will present their personal vision for education. Youth Hospitalized After Reaction To Medication A Shallottc Middle School stu dent was rushed 10 The Brunswick Hospital Tuesday after taking anoth er student's prescription medication. Shallottc Volunteer Rescue Squad transported the 14-year-old boy from school to the Supply hospital around 1 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. "He just started getting real sleepy," Shallottc Police Chief Rod ncy Gausc said. "It jusl fell bad on his stomach." Policc arc investigating the inci dent. They identified the drug as "Ccftin," an antibiotic usually used to treat upper respiratory problems. "It wasn't a very strong dose," Gausc said. "He took two tablets as far as wc can determine at this time." Shallouc Policc Del. Carey Gas kins said doctors pumped the stom ach of the boy at the hospital. The drugs had been prescribed to a 15 year-old boy who attends the school. Police said Tuesday afternoon they hadn't been able to question the sick student and weren't sure if the drugs had been given to him or if he took them from the other student's jacket.
