Deputies and detectives made a total of 26 arrests as prosecuting witness. A total of 1,607 calls were an swered, including 183 domestic calls, and 456 investigations were made. Deputies found seven doors or windows nrvn th? report ?5>'^ Deputies served 481 civil papers and summoned 112 witnesses. Ele ven mental and inebriate papers were served, along with 23 foreign warrants. More than 104,225 miles were logged, including 29 trips out of the county. The department used a total of 8,8% gallons of gasoline. Sheriff's personnel spent 14 off duty hours in court and 43 on-duty hours. There were 4 1 crime preven tion meetings. Tutor Training Offered The Brunswick County Literacy Council will sponsor a free tutor training workshop in Leland in January. The workshop will be held Sat urday, Jan. 9, and Sunday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day at Goshen Baptist Church. It will be led by trainer Rich Dixon. Upon completion of the work shop, participants will be certified tutors in the one-on-one, phonics based Laubach Way to Reading. Tutors will be matched with students who have contacted the literacy council. The Brunswick County Literacy Council providees free one-on-one lessons to adults and teens who want to improve their reading and writing skills.
