West Brunswick Girls Drop Two Close Games BY DOUG RUTTER If a few layups or foul shots had fallen through the hoop instead of rolling out, the West Brunswick girls' basketball team could be 2-0. As it is, though, the Lady Trojans have started the season 0-2 after los ing a pair of games last week that went down to the final buzzer. After leading both games in the fourth quarter. West Brunswick fell to Bladenboro and North Myrtle Beach (S.C.). West lost both games by a combined four points. North Myrtle Beach defeated the visiting Lady Trojans 26-23 Friday. In the season opener Tuesday at Bladenboro, West led 28-20 after three quarters but lost 34-33. "We're just real young and inex perienced," West Brunswick Coach Brenda Council said following Friday night's loss. "We only have two starting that played last year and all the others are new. We're show ing our inexperience." West's two veteran starters ? Monique King and Nicole Norris ? scored eight points each at North Myrtle. But their scoring wasn't enough as the Chicfettcs rallied in the final quarter to improve to 5-2. Kim Ford led North Myrtle Beach with nine points, and Jennifer Sand! in chipped in six for the hosts in a game that had more turnovers than points scored. West Brunswick committed 30 turnovers, missed 12 layups and hit just three of 1 1 free throw attempts. Council said that was the difference between winning and losing. West Brunswick scored the first four points of the game, but the Chiefeues scored the next seven and led 9-8 after the first quarter. After four lead changes in the sec ond quarter.
