Herring has served on the board sincc 1982; his current term will end in 1993. At Thursday's meeting, first-time board members Jack W. Miller of Guideway. D.V. Jones Jr. of Long Beach and Simmons were sworn in to office, said BEMC spokesman Phillip Morgan. The cooperative provides electric ity to members across much of Brunswick County and Columbus County and a small area in Bladen County. CP&L Calendars In Mail Calendars featuring nature scenes and safety instructions arc in the mail to residents in the 10-mile area around Carolina Power & Light's Brunswick plant, a company news release states. "Our theme for the 1993 safety information calendar is preserving state parks," said Richard E. Morgan Sr., interim manager of the Bruns wick Nuclear Project. In addition to nature photographs, the calendars contain information about emergency plans for the Brunswick plant. Each monthly page reflects public safety informa tion such as the public warning sys tem and instrucUons on what to do in an emergency. It also shows pub lic evacuation routes and shelters. Along with the calendar, CP&L is mailing a brochure for residents to put in the glove compartments of their cars. The brochure includes the basic emergency information con tained in the calendar. CP&L developed the calendar and brochure in cooperation with Brunswick and New Hanover coun ties and the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Ho/den Merchants To Meet The Greater Holdcn Beach Mer chants Association will elect officers at its Jan. 5 meeting, set for 7 p.m. at the Quarterdeck Restaurant. All officers' positions arc up for election ? president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The associa tion docs not present a slate, and all nominations arc made from the floor and voted on by the members pre sent. All members of good standing for 1992 will be eligible to vote, as well as new members who sign up and pay the S30 annual membership fee befor the meeting begins. In addition, the group's tentative agenda includes a vole on the dollar amount to be donated to fire and res cue, discussion of this year's "Day at the Docks," the Holdcn Beach brochure, causcway improvements, Festival By The Sea Logo for 1993 and discussion of long-term goals for 1993 and beyond. Earns Certification Alice Fields of Holden Bcach, a radiologic tech nologist at The Brunswick Ho spital, recently received certifi cation in the field of mam mography. To become a certified mam mographcr, an individual must FIELDS have previous experience as a regis tered radiologic technologist and pass the subsequent board examina tion. Certification in mammography is currently not required for radio logic technologists. Fields has been employed by The Brunswick Hospital for four years and has more than 1 ! years of expe rience as a radiologic technologist. "Mammography is one of the fastest growiing healthcare services available today," said Fields. "It has earned recognition among women of all ages, as they arc realizing its crit ical role in the prevention of breast cancer." Anderson Chosen Teresa Anderson has been chosen as December employee of the month at The Brunswick Hospital. A six year employee, she is director of medical records. A fellow employee who nominat ed her said, 'Teresa is a friendly and caring person who is always ready to do more than she is asked to do.
