The Great International Tee Par ty. an annual golf tournament that pits 70 North Americans against 70 Europeans, will celebrate its sixth anniversary this November at Sea Trail Plantation. The Tec Party attracted golfers from seven countries last year, and Pope expects more nations to be represented in 1993. "We have some people who have been to every one of them. They make great friendships." Thomas Schmidt of Mannheim. Germany, and four friends visited the area in June for a golf vacation. The group played courses including Oyster Bay, Brierwood. Sandpiper Bay and Ocean Harbour during its two-week stay. Schmidt described the iocal courses as "world class" compared to what he's used to playing. "I've played the best courses of my life. Chadwick says the European in flux doesn't just help The Winds. Por every dollar spent at the motel, foreigners spend three dollars at other businesses in the area. Schmidt admitted that he went on a "shopping crazc" during his iwo weeks at Ocean Isle. Among other things, he bought shirts here for $20 that would have cost $70 back home. "Golf is getting extremely popu lar, especially in the last two years," Schmidt said. "I feel we are just on the beginning of the tide in Ger many. This is a great opportunity for this area."
