CHURCH ACTIVITIES Warner Appointed Co-Chair Of De partment For Diocese The Rev. Dr. Richard w. Warner Jr.. has been appointed co-chair of the Department of Christian Formation for the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina by the Rt. Rev. B." Sid ney Sanders. bishop. A resident of Holden Beach. Warner is rector WARNER of St. James the Fisherman Epis copal Church in Shallotte. The department is responsible for coordinating programming in the ar eas of Christian education, family ministries, alcohol and drug depen dence. evangelism and renewal, ag ing. racism, human sexuality, and peace and justice for the 7()-plus churches that comprise the diocese. Warner, former dean of the School of Education at East Caro lina University, brings 20 years of experience in public and higher-edu cation as well as 10 years of experi ence in parish ministry to the posi tion. The Rev. Russell Johnson, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton. is serving as the other co chair. Oktoberfest Slated The second Oktoberfest at Little River United Methodist Church in Little River, S.C.. will feature fla vorful German food and German music by the "Sourkraut Band" Sat urday. Oct. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Friendship class of the church. Tick ets are $5 per person for adults, and children under 10. S3. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. Seven Baptised Seven baptisms this past Sunday were the first to be held in the new Brunswick Islands Baptist Church building at N.C. 130 and Mt. Pisgah Road near Holden Beach. Baptised were Maggie Lewis, Callie Huskins, Douglas Hall, Eric Lee Johnson, Matt Ethan Ruff, Shane Edward Pittman and Robert Lee Dawson. Most baptism candidates had been waiting until the service could be held in their new church, as they had been active in the building process, said spokesman Doug Hall.
