Deaths And Funerals CARL H. SOENICHSEN Carl H. Soenichsen. 71, of Cala bash and Elmore. Ohio, died Dec. 21 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. The funeral was Dec. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore, where he was a member. Born in Niebull, Germany, on Jan. 21, 1922, to Andrew and Chris tine Sonnichsen, he came to the United States in 1925. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Soenichsen was em ployed by Sun Oil's Toledo Refinery for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He al so was in police work for 35 years, retiring in 1983 as chief of Harris Township Police. He was a founding member and past officer of Ottawa County Fraternal Order of Police, a founding member of Calabash VFW and Calabash Elks; served on the Elmore Board of Public Affairs and Harris-Elmore Public Library Board, and was a member of the Calabash American Legion Post, Fremont Eagles, and Cape Fear Chapter of American Ex-POWs. and a past national president of the 10th Armored Veterans Association. Survivors include his mother, Christine Sonnichsen of Oak Har bor, Ohio; his wife, Kathleen Wendt Soenichsen; two daughters, Susan Minier of Oak Harbor, Ohio; and Carol Flick of Elmore; his son, Stev en Soenichsen of Elmore; a sister, Katherine Tonoff of Davenport, Fla.; and a grandson and granddaughter. BENNY NOAH JONES Benny Noah Jones, 69, of South port died Dec. 21 at his residence. The funeral was Dec. 23 at Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Suggs and the Rev. Norman Evans officiating. Burial was in Bethel Church Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born July 4, 1924, in Fuquay-Varina, a son of the late William Connie and Mary Belle II_. a Jones, and had lived in the Southport zrea 49 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, an infantry sharp shooter and served with Merrill's Marauders during World War II. He was employed as maintenance su pervisor with Ocean Trail Convales cent Center, Southport, and formerly was a menhaden boat engineer. He also served as a counselor and a leader of the Southport-Oak Island Chapter of A. A. Survivors include his wife. Myrtle Singletary Jones of the home; two daughters, Mary Jones Henderson of Wilmington and Bobbie Jones Clay ton of Boiling Spring Lakes; a brother, DeVoe Jones of Raleigh; seven grandchildren; and a great grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund. MICHAEL GLEN GORE Michael Glen Gore, 39, of Kins ton died Dec. 21. The funeral was held Dec. 24 at Howard-Carter & Stroud Funeral Home, Kinston, with the Rev. John Green officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Estates Ceme tery, Grifton. MARY WALKER POPE Mary Walker Pope, 70, of Bruns wick Cove Nursing Center, Leland, died Dec. 25 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilming ton, after a lingeting illness.
