Squadron Sets Boating Course To Begin Jan. 15 There is still time for those who want to learn to skipper a boat with confidence to sign up lor the Shal lotte River Power Squadron's boat ing course which begins Jan. 15. The Shallotte River Power Squad ron conducts the United Stales Pow er Squadron Boating Course twice a year as a public service. In 1992. IS students passed the final exam, and in 1993. 29 passed. Classes will be held for eight con secutive Saturdays at 9 A.M. at the Atlantic Telephone Membership Corporation Training Center, llwy. 130 west of Shallotte. There is no charge for the course, but a nominal charge is made for materials. The course will teach boat han dling. elementary seamanship, regis tration. equipment regulations, safe operation, charts anil aids to naviga tion. basic navigation, trailer boating and more. MOODY MAKES ALL-TOURNEY TEAM Lady Trojans Place Fourth In East Duplin Holiday Tourney BY DOUG RUTTER West Brunswick's Lady Trojans picked up their second win of the season last week and placed fourth in East Duplin Booster Club Holi day Basketball Tournament. Coach Brenda Council's girls de feated Durham Jordan 45-41 in the first round of the seventh annual tournament, which was held last Tuesday through Thursday at East Duplin High School. The Lady Trojans suffered losses to East Duplin. 57-46. and West Carteret. 42-29. in other tournament action. West Brunswick freshman Donicia Moody was named to the all-tourna ment team after averaging 10.7 points per game in three games and leading the team in scoring against West Carteret and East Duplin. The l-adv Trojans (2-3) were scheduled to host Wilmington Lancy Wednesday night in their home opener. West travels to North Myrtle Beach Friday night to play the l-ady Chiefs Norris Scores 16 West Brunswick senior center Nicole Norris scored 16 points to lead ilic Lau^ Trojans in iiieii four point win over 4A Durham Jordan last Tuesday. "We got it inside pretty much and Nicole did a good job on the boards." Coach Council said of the win over the Lady Falcons. West Brunswick dominated the first half, leading 11 -4 after one pe riod and 25-10 at halftime. Durham Jordan played much bet ter in the second half and trimmed West's lead to 31-29 at the end of the third period The I ;?ly Trojans outscored their opponents 14-12 in the final period for the win.
