Golden Anniversary A lex and .lean Mearns of Calabash celebrated their golden wed ding annivesary recently. The couple exchanged vows March 18, 1944 in Glasgow, Scotland, and have spent their 50 years together in Scotland, Australia and the U.S. They have a son, Dr. Robert D. Means of Columbia. S.C., and a daughter, Carolyn Ermlick of Strongsville, Ohio. Their grandchildren are Melissa and Andrew Ermlick and Sarah and Keith Mearns. CLUB BRIEFS Artists Plan Show, Sale The Waterway Art Assoc. will hold its annual show and sale Sat., May 28, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the SeaTrail Plantation Land also used for the N.C. Virginia "Bunny" Lauzon. a local artist, will judge entries on May 21 at the Seaside United Methodist Church. The association's regular monthly meeting will take place at the Sunday Beach Fire Station on Wed nesday, April 20. Members and other interested people are invited to bring their lunch for shared time starting at 12.30 p.m., according to Shirley Campbell, spokesman. The business meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. At 2, Jean Jones, an art instructor from Southport's Franklin Square Gallery, will demonstrate the use of ink collage on rice paper. Auxiliarists' Gift The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 8866 of Holden Beach recently presented Supply Elementary School with "Lite-a-Tvke" safety patches for children in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2. The patches are reflective stickers that can be attached to children's book bags or jackets. Children wearing clothing or book bags with the reflectors will be more visible to motorists in the dark. The patches were presented to Dr. Carolyn Williams, principal, by Bertie Callan, safety chairman of the auxiliary. NARFE Meetings Two local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) plan April meetings. The lntracoastal Chapter 2266 will meet at the VFW, 900 Carter Road in Calabash, on Apr. 5 at 10 a.m. Members should note the change in location of the meeting place. The Brunswick County Chapter will hold its monthly meeting at the Sand Fiddler Restaurant, Southport, on Tuesday, April 12 at noon. Membership is available to all federal retirees and federal em ployees with at least five years' ser vice. United Way Publishes New Directory The Cape Fear Area United Way's First Call for Help Program has completed its new community resources directory. The directory contains more than 700 listings of human service agen cies in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties and includes information on handicapped access, eligibility guidelines, fees, length on waiting list, methods of intake and contact persons. The listings are outlined in both alphabetical and subject indexes and contains two new sections listing support groups and toll-free num bers.
