Hwy. 17, Bolivia C1MM THE BRUNSWICK BEACON OLIVER NORTH NEEDS YOUR HELP AGAIN ATTENTION: ALL VETERANS, SPOUSES, WIDOWS OR CHILDREN OF VETERANS AND ALL OTHER PATRIOTIC AMERICANS Remember the summer of 1987 when over fifty million Americans witnessed daily an amazing phenomenon over television from the huge Senate Caucus Room where Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North burst into the American psyche? Colonel North appeared on live television and met and bested his accusers, taking Capitol Hill and the nation by storm. By the end of a week, his brave, straight-forward words had struck a chord in the hearts of hard working, middle class, responsible patriotic people all across America. Ollie North had revealed himself to be a man of unquestionable loyalty, whose sole obsession was the protection of his country and defense of freedom. When Colonel North was ques tioned about covert actions he undertook on behalf of America, he stood tall and took the blame squarely in every case where the blame was his to take. When the blame was not his, he stood up to the Washington politicians and beat them at their own game. Colonel North was ridiculed by some in the press as well as the politicians. Bob Schieffer on CBS talked about Ollie, "putting the best possible spin on things like patriotism and that sort of thing." What a hideous specter! A specter that ob viously haunted Mr. Schieffer. John Chancellor likened the first days of the hear ing to the theater and called Colonel North's Marine uniform, with the many battle ribbons. Silver and Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts a "costume." Colonel North had more than earned the right to wear his Marine uniform with honor. In the end all the charges were dropped or overturned as Colonel North had said they would be from the beginning Now Colonel North is a candidate for the U S, Senate in Virginia and as the Marine recruitment advertisement talks about, "a few good men" we need a heck of a lot of good people in our government. Ollie needs all the help he can get Some of the same groups that villianized him before are working hard to defeat his run for the senate because he is an outsider. We need strong people who love this great country of ours, people who know what America stands for and will work to keep it strong and free.
