Whitevi lie's Wolf pack Beats South Cougars Anthony Pridgen pitched a com plete-game. four-hitter to lead Whiteville to a 5-1 win over host South Brunswick last Friday night in high school baseball. Mark Koenig and Anthony Southern each had two-run singles for the Wolfpack, which improved to 4-0 in the Waccamaw Conference and 9-2 overall. Pridgen (3-1) struck out two and walked one. Jerry Galloway suffered the loss for South Brunswick, which com mitted four errors. The Cougars fell to 0-2 in the conference and 5-7 overall. In Waccamaw Conference action last Tuesday, East Columbus pitcher John Junious hurled a one-hitter as the Gators rolled to an 11-1 victory over South Brunswick at Lake Wac camaw. Lewis Vaught tripled and scored in the second inning for the Cou gars' only offense. Pitcher Brian Ricker took the loss for South Brunswick, which committed six er rors. East Columbus broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fourth inning. The Gators added two more in the fifth and four in the sixth before the game was stopped under the 10-run rule. Junious struck out seven batters and also had a double. Kelly Bass went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI as the Gators improved to 2-0 in the Waccamaw Conference and 6 5 overall. South Brunswick had two road games scheduled this week, starting with a Tuesday night date at Pender. South Brunswick will visit South Columbus on Thursday. Lady Scorpions Lose First Meet North Brunswick's girls track team, which started the season with a record of 12-0, showed its first signs of mortality last Tuesday with a loss to New Hanover. The 1-ady Wildcats scored 81 points to win a tri-meet at Leiand. North Brunswick won five events and finished second with 48.5 points, and Laney was third with 26.5. New Hanover also won the boys' competition after winning 14 of 18 events and racking up 113 points. Laney finished a distant second with 54. and North Brunswick took third with 25. New Britton, Friendship Baptist. Zion Baptist and Supply Baptist are among the teams off to good starts with records of 2-0 heading into Tuesday night's games. The 16 teams in the league this year have been grouped in two divi sions. Games arc scheduled every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights at Waccamaw through July 21. After the first week. New Britton and Zion Baptist are tied for first place in the B Division. New Britton defeated Camp Met hodist 18-9 last Thursday and posted a 4-1 victory over Seaside Methodist in the season opener last Monday. Zion Baptist improved to 2-0 with a 16-12 win over Old Shallotte Monday night. Last Monday. Zion pounded Eastside Fellowship 23-7. Friendship Baptist and Supply Baptist are leading the A Division after the first week of play. Friendship thrashed Ocean View 15-1 on Monday and defeated Shal lotte First 17-10 last Monday. Supply Baptist was a 12-10 win ner over Mount Olive on Monday. Supply also heat Emanual Outreach 9-7 last Tuesday. In other games last week. Soldier Bay defeated Camp Methodist 19 14, Mount Olive edged Jennies Branch 14-11 and Old Shallotte knocked off Dixon Chapel 15-11. Also last week Emanual Outreach defeated Mount Olive 12-4, Ocean View was a 10-3 winner over Letties Grove and Seaside Methodist got past Soldier Bay 15-5.
