Thalians Seeking Directors,
Begins Membership Campaign
The Thalian Association commu
nity theatre is seeking directors,
choreographers, music directors and
designers for its 1994-95 production
season.
Plays to be staged are "Gypsy,"
"The Fantasticks," "Biloxi Blues,"
"My Name is Alice" and "Best
Little Whorehouse in Texas."
Second Stage series plays include
"Night Mother," "The Dining
Room" and "Burn This."

sumes and letters to the association

Thalians in such jobs in the past two

The Thalian Association has be

punch-card-type membership.
Special membership categories
begin with a subscriber membership
at $150, which includes having the
same seat for each play all year, re
ceptions and program listing. Ad
ditional membership categories are
available with a greater number of
tickets for a larger membership fee.

AARP Host Covered Dish Dinner
Calalabash Chapter 3640. Ameri
can Association of Retired Persons
(AAR) will meet June 2 in the
Calabash Fire ho use on Persimmon
Road.
The meeting will begin with a
covered dish supper to start at 6:30.
Organizers arc asking that all foods
be brought by 6:15.
A short business meeting will iol
low.
Highlight of the evening will be
the annual silent auction, said An
thony Santino, publicity chairman.
Proceeds will go to charity.
Guests are welcome. Admission
is a large dish of food and a dessert.
Gainer To Report
The National Association of
Retired Federal Employees
(NARFE) Chapter 2266 will hold its
regular meeting at 10 a.m. June 7 at
the Calabash VFW Hall.
Joe Gainer will report on a recent
meeting between North Carolina
chapter members and Congressman
Charlie Rose.
All retired federal employees and
their spouses are eligible to join.
Coffee and sweets will be served
during the meeting.
NARFE To Meet
The Brunswick County Chapter
of the National Association of
Retired Federal Employees
(NARFE) will hold its monthly
meeting at the Sand Fiddler
Resraurant, Southport, on Tuesday,
June 14, at noon.
Guest speaker will be Tom
Rogers of the Concord Coalition,
whose discussion and slide show is
entitled, "How to Balance the
Federal Budget."
NARFE meetings are open to the
public. Membership is available to
federal retirees and federal employ
ees with at least five years of ser
vice.

Offers Appearance
Help To Patients
The program "Look Good.. .Feel
Better" will be offered free to cancer
patients June 14 at the American
Cancer Society office in Wilming
ton.
The program is sponsored by the
American Cancer Society, National
Cosmetology Association and the
Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance
Association Foundation.
A certified cosmetologist helps
patients during cancer treatment
with skin care, make-up guides, care
and choice of wigs and turban cov

Buddy Training Slated
The Brunswick Buddies program
will hold volunteer training June IS
and 16 at Brunswick Community
College's Lelanri campus.
The program is in need of adult
role models who can spend a few
hours each week with young boys
and girls who are involved in the
court system.
Training will run from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m. each day. The campus is at
2050 Enterprise Blvd.

'50s Grads To Participate
In Shallotte High Reunion
A multi -class reunion of Shallotte
High School graduates from 1953
through 1957 is planned July 2 at
Sea Trail Plantation's Pavilion.
Class members who haven't re
ceived an invitation or haven't re
turned registrations need to do so
right away, said JoAnn Simmons.
The invitation is also being ex
tended to include anyone who grad
uated from Shallotte High School
during the 1950s.
"It's going to be a big class re
union this time," said Simmons. "A
lot of people who graduated in those
years have expressed an interest in
attending, so we've invited them."
The reunion will begin at 5 p.m.,
with dinner at 7 p.m. A pigpicking
and dancing to jukebox music are
among the planned activities.
