Anglers
Putting In Spots

Local pier anglers continued
catching a mixed hag of fish last
week, but the good spring spot fish

than anything.
"It's going great." Ed Kayler of
Sunset Beach Fishing Pier said
Monday. "The spots really hit big
Saturday and Sunday. They've been
catching bunches of them."
Kayler said fishermen also caught
Spanish mackerel, bluefish, whiting,
drum and flounder last week.
At Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier,
manager Milton Williams said fish
ermen have been pulling in spots,
flounder, speckled trout, blues,
Spanish, whiting and sheepshead.
"Fishing's been pretty good. The
spots have been biting real good,"
Williams said Monday.
"It's been real good for the last
eight to 10 days. We're hoping it
continues. The weather's getting
better. We're getting some sun
shine."
Fishermen also found a good sup
ply of spots last week at Holden
Beach Fishing Pier, according to
manager Gil Bass.
"The spots have picked up this
week. They're doing right weil.
They're the smaii spnng spots," he
reported Monday.
Bass said fishermen also landed
whiting, flounder, sheepshead. trout
and lots of dog sharks last week.

Ocean Isle Marina
Fishermen caught lots of Icing
mackerel and cobia close to shore
last week, according to Ken Shipley
of Ocean Isle Marina.
"I don't know what it is, but the
cobia have been excellent," Shipley
said. "I got a feeling all this warm
weather is what's doing it."

Is Still Leading Division
Emanual Outreach has won three
games in the past week to maintain
its stranglehold on first place in the
A Division of the Brunswick County
Men's Church Softball League.
Emanual Outreach posted a 14-6
win over Zion Baptist on Monday to
improve its league-best record to 13
1 . Last week. Emanual beat Eastside
Fellowship 17-2 and Old Shallotte
23-2.
Supply Baptist entered Tuesday
night's play second in the A
Division with a record of 1 2-2. In its
oniy game iasi week. Supply nar
rowly avoided an upset with an 8-7
win over Zion Baptist.
Mt. Olive, coming off a 20-5 win
over Old Shallotte on Monday, sits
third in the A Division with a 12-3
mark. Mt. Olive also posted wins
last week over Dixon Ciiapci, 23-1,
and Zion Baptist, 12-7.
Camp Methodist, currently last in
the B Division, picked up its first
win of the season last Thursday, a
17-9 beating of Letties Grove.
In other games last week.
Friendship Baptist topped Soldier
Bay 18-7, Jennies Branch defeated
Eastside Fellowship 9-7 and Ocean
View nipped Soldier Bay 11-10.

Carolina state line has been closed
to shrimp and crab trawling in order
to protect baby brown shrimp.
The waterway was closed to traw
ling Sunday night, as was Bonaparte
Creek from Waterway Marker No.
Ill to Little River Inlet and part of
the Cape Fear River, according to an
N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries
proclamation.
