Man Cited For 'Obscene Gesture ' Found Guilty Of Assault With Truck A 39-year-old Bclville man. re cently cited for allegedly making obscene gestures in c*urt. was found guilty last week of assault with a deadly weapon tor trying to run over a Leland man with a truck. Larrv Weber of Main Street was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended on the condition thai he perform 48 hours of community ser vicc, pay $6(1 court costs and write a letter of apology to the man he tried to run over. The case was originally scheduled to he heard May 23. when District Court Judge JerTy Jolly found Weber in contempt of court because he "on at least three occasions made a ob scene gesture with his middle finger, commonly known as The Bird,' to ward Chief (Charles) Cliff of the Ix'land Police Department." The judge ordered Weber thrown in jail for seven days. Weber has appealed both deci sions to superior court Judge Ola Lewis presided over three days of district court in Bolivia last week. Assistant District Attor ney Marion Warren prosecuted, while Marie Jordan served as court room clerk. Other defendants who appeared in court last week, with their charges and judgments include: Michael Wayne Arno. possess ing/consuming beer/wine on unau thorized premises, voluntarily dis missed; carrying a concealed wea pon. voluntarily dismissed, no plain tiff other than officer.
