Shallotte Mother Is Accused Of Allowing Sex With Dauahten 12 a ^nallotte woman was indicted on three felony charges last week for allegedly allowing someone to have sexual intercourse with her 12-year-old daughter. A Brunswick County Grand Jury agreed July 25 that investigators have enough evidence to prosecute Dentse Cooper Minton, 37, of Oakwest Street, Green bay Village, in superior court on three charges of felony child abuse. The indictments allege that Minton "did allow a sexual act, sexual intercourse" upon a girl who was 12 years old. "At the time the defendant committed the offense, she was the parent of the child," the indictments say. The incidents are alleged to have occurred in May 1992, January 1993 and on March 21, 1994. Also indicted by the grand jury last week were: ? David Lyle Darst. 23, of Poplar Road, Southport, on two charges of first degree rape of a child under the age of 13. Both offenses, involving two young children, are alleged to have occurred on May 31 in Boiling Spring Lakes. ? Lonnie Wayne Gordon, 20, of Barclay Road, Southport, on a charge of taking indecent liberties with a child under the age of 16. The incident is alleged to have occurred on May 31 in Boiling Spring Lakes. ? Robert Kent White, 33, of Charlotte on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious in jury. The indictment slates that on June 7, White "did use a golf club, a deadly weapon, to assault and inflict serious injury upon Charles H. Perry by beating him about the head and body causing wounds requiring nu merous stitches." ? James Lee Cobb, 31, of North Lord Street, Southport, on one count each of robbery with a danger ous weapon, breaking and entering and larceny. He is accused of stealing less than $70 cash from a Southport convenience store June 6 while threatening the use of a handgun. ? Alex O'Hara King. 21, of Lads Road, Shallotte on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is accused of using a 380-calibcr pis tol to assault Joe Vercen "by shooting him in the but tocks" last February. ? James Kevin Little, 22, of Wilmington on charges of burning a building used for trade, breaking and entering and larceny. He and another Wilmington man are accused of breaking into Jimmy's Marine re pair shop on Lee Drive, Leland. and stealing a motor scooter, marine batteries and miscellaneous tools val ued at about S3.000 on May 29. The two arc also charged with setting fire to nearby Coots Marina on Mount Misery Road, Leland, that night ? Henry Herbert Giles, 21, of Wilmington on one count each of breaking and entering, larctny and burn ing a building used for trade. He is accused in the same offenses as Little. ? Gerald Lamar Yarb rough, also known as Doug las Dabbs, 39, of Kilbart Street, Ocean Isle Beach, on a charge of obtaining property by false pretense. He is ac cused of using a check drawn on a closed account to open a new account at a Shallotte Bank "with the intent to cheat and defraud" by attempting to obtain $1,000 from the bank. ? David Wayne Brown, 33, of Kure Beach, on a felony worthless check charge for allegedly writing a check for SI 8,000 to a Shallotte lumber company, knowing that the account did not have enough funds to cover the check. ? Gary Wade Robbins, 33, of Old Mill Creek Road, Winnabow. on one count each of cocaine posses sion, maintaining a dwelling to keep and sell controlled substances and maintaining a vehicle to keep and sell controlled substances. ? William Alfred Alston, 33, of Park Ave, Navassa on one count each of cocaine possession, sale and de livery of cocaine and possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine. ? Rebecca Cobb Seal, 29, of Wood! awn Mobile Home Park, Leland, on one count each of welfare fraud, food stamp fraud and medical assistance recipi ent fraud. She is accused of knowingly giving false in formation on applications for benefits, saying her three children were living with her on Jan. 20, 1993, when in fact they had been admitted to an orphanage the previ ous October. ? Claudie David Cook, 37, of Castle Hayne on a charge of cocaine possession. ? W>?iam David Anderson, 34, of Wimberly Road, jouthport, on a charge of cocaine possession. Robert Keith Cooper, 33, of Green Oak Camp rjound. Supply, on one count each of manufacturing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia He is accused of "growing one marijuana plant in a pot" and possessing a bong, hemostats and roiling papers. OIB Man Slashed, Another Arrested In Seaside Bar Fiaht One Ocean Isle Beach man was slashed with a razor knife and a sec ond was arrested after a disagreement between friends turned violent at a Seaside bar Friday night, according a crime report on file at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department. The victim, 51 -year-old Richard Paul Little of Sommersett Road, suf fered a cut on his back that required 19 surgical stables to close, accord ing to BCSD Detective Steve Ma son, who investigated the case. Little also received a serious cut on his arm in the attack. Deputy Cathy Hamilton reported being called to the bar and grill on N.C.179 at about 9:30 p.m. In an in terview with the victim. Little re portedly told her that he had re ceived a threatening telephone call from his friend Otis Ray Stephens Jr. and agreed to meet him at the bar to talk. Once there. Little asked Stephens to step outside, the report said. "When they started out the door, the suspect pulled out a box cutter CRIME REPORT and cut Mr. Little on the right shoul der blade and right arm," Hamilton reported. Mason said his investigation of the incident revealed that the two men had been having a "serious on going dispute over a business trans action" that led to the assault Friday night. Stephens, 49, who lives on Water loo Street in the Water Wonderland subdivision, was charged with as sault with a deadly weapon inflict ing serious injury. He was jailed in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond. An investigation into the incident is continuing. Mason said. In other crime reports on file at the sheriff's office Monday: ? A man and woman who live on Green Hill Road, Winnabow. were charged with arson of a mobile home on nearby Dogwood Street last week. Valerie Anne Burchetto, 25, and Richard Glen Kuhn, 29, were arrested Thursday. They are accused of setting (ire to a trailer oc cupied by a man, two women and a 7-month-old child. The two suspects were put in Brunswick County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond each. ? More than $18,000 cash was repotted stolen from a beach shop on Holden Beach Road, Supply, Wednesday afternoon (July 31). The store owner reportedly told Deputy Jerry Gray that he "had put his mon ey in a drawer at the front desk in a cloth money bag with a lock." He believes that someone entered the business through a rear door, went into the office and took the bank bag sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Also missing was a battery, a charger and a package of Vantage cigarettes, the report said. ? An $11,000 1993 Fold Mustang was reported stolen from outside a Leland game room late Tuesday night. Deputy Mark Snow den met with the complainant, a 21 year-old Leland man, the next morn ing and was told that he went into the store at the corner of Mt. Misery Road and Fletcher Drive at about 8 p.m. to play pool. When he came out at about 1:30 a.m., the car was gone. He told Snowden that the ve hicle was unlocked but the keys were in his pocket. ? The Lumber ton man who owns the trailer told Deputy Ward that he returned Friday night to discover that two locks had Suspects Charged With Stealina Coins From Car Wash BY DOUG RUTTER Shallotte Policc have arrested four people who allegedly tied a laminated dollar bill to the end of a string in order to steal coins from the change machine at an automatic car wash. Charged with one count each of breaking into a coin or currency ma chine are Lauri Jean Arlington, 18, of Supply; Jamie Marlowe, 19, of Supply; Dwayne Edward Freeman, 28, of Shallotte; and Frank Zcbulun Ballew, 21, of Shallotte. "They were all involved togeth er," Police Chief Rodney Gause said. "One would be lookout, anoth er would be getting the coins and the other two would be around the vehi cle looking out." Gause said an eyewitness saw the suspects taking money from the change machine at Shallotte Auto Spa on Holden Beach Road on July 12. The witness wrote down the li cense plate number and description of the vehicle. "We had an eyewitness that saw them do this," Gause said. "If it hadn't been for this person we would still be looking for them." Gause said the suspects later told police they had been stealing from coin machines elsewhere in the county and state, also in Georgia and Florida. "They were bragging about doing it until the light came on. That meant the machine was empty," Cause said. "Sometimes they would get up to S300. This is something that was going on not just in Shal lotte but all over the county." Cause said the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department is investigat ing and may file additional charges. "There is another suspect but we have not questioned him yet We have not been able to locate him," Gause added. The four suspects who were ar rested are being held in Brunswick County Jail, each under $1,000 se cured bond. Thomasboro Man Arrested A Thomasboro man remained in Brunswick County Jail under a $25,500 secured bond Tuesday after his arrest in connection with several recent cases of breaking and enter ing. Gause said police have charged Charles Edward Stanley, 30, of No. 5 School house Road with four counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny, two counts of breaking and entering and larceny and one count of larceny of a firearm. Arrested Monday, Stanley is ac cused of breaking into four vehicles parked outside three Shallotte busi nesses in a two-week period last month. Vehicles were broken into July S at Heilig Meyers Furniture Comp any and July 16 at Mirrorlite. Two vehicles were unlawfully entered July 19 at Coastal Drug, and a fire arm was taken from one of those ve hicles. Gause said the suspect also is ac cused of a July 8 break-in at the Subway restaurant and another break-in four days later at The Cove nursing home. Gause said police had two war rants for Stanley's arrest when he was picked up, and the suspect was charged with the additional crimes after questioning. The county sheriff's department is investigating Stanley's possible con nection with at least two other crimes that occurred in the county within the past two weeks, Gause said. Drug Charges Filed Two Shallotte area men were charged with possession of cocaine after police stopped and searched a vehicle last Friday on N.C. 179 near Calvary Baptist Church. James Nelson Hill. 27, and Ken neth Hill, 36, were charged with one count of each of possession of co caine, Gause said. A 70-year-old Calabash retiree reported the theft of 12 T-shirts from his home on Ocean Forest Drive last week. He told Deputy Richard Long that someone apparently came in through a kitchen window, took the shirts and went out through a side door. The stolen property was val ued at $48. Damage was estimated to be $150. ? The owner of a mobile home in the Gator's Grant subdivision. Sup ply, was unsure if anything was tak en in an apparent break-in that caused an estimated S400 damage to his summer residence late last month. He told Deputy Hamilton that he arrived at the trailer Friday to find that someone had removed a sliding glass door from its frame. However, "he advises that his wife may have had this done," Hamilton reported. Although some items were missing, the report said the man "will let us know if he finds out that she didn't do this."
