If you are ready for some
homemade ice cream, Linda
Williams has come up with a
blue ribbon winner. Linda
entered her ice cream recipe in
the 4-H District Day in Dairy
Foods competition and 4-H
Favorite Foods competition,
winning blue ribbons in both
events and still more. Linda was
invited to give demonstrations
to the Home Extension Club and
local 4-H club. She has been
active in 4-H for 10 years.
This fall Linda will be
attending Mr. Olive School as a
business major. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Williams of Merit.
Linda’s Homemade
Vanilla Ice Cream
2 cups whole milk
4 cups evaporated milk
I cup sugar
4 tablespoons vanilla
Pour milks in bowl. Add sugar
and stir until dissolved. Add
vanilla. Pour into either hand
cranked or electric ice cream
freezer. Makes 2 quarts.
This is an economical recipe
and an easy way to cool off
Linda told me. Linda suggested
topping with chocolate or your
favorite syrup. She also crushes
fruit and uses it for topping.
We tried this recipe for ice
cream and everyone thought it
was made with heavy cream.
The only mistake we made was
not doubling the recipe. Thank
You Linda!
A TIP: Place fresh live clams
in water (cover them with
water) sprinkle 2 tablespoons
cornmeal on top of water and set
aside overnight. The clams will
take in cornmeal and get rid of
any grit they contain. Thank
You Reader!
It is rewarding to have others
helping with this column. Please
keep your recipes and tips
coming to me in care of the
Pamlico County News.
