volunteers will be offered by
the Continuing Education
Department of Pamlico
Technical College on
September 14, October 5, 12. 19
and 26 at St. Thomas Episcopal
Church in Oriental from 6:00 to
9:00 pm.
You may register at the first
session. The registration fee is
$10.00 which is waived for those
65 or more years of age.
FLAG FOOTBALL
REGISTRATION
Pamlico County Recreation
Department is now registering
kids ages 6-12 for Flag Football
to begin in the fall. Registration
forms are available in the
schools and may be returned to
the Recreation Department by
mail or in person during office
hours, or during either of the
two after hours registration
days: Wednesday, September
14, 5-7 pm; Saturday,
September 17,10-12 noon, in the
Courthouse Annex, Bayboro.
There is a $5.00 registration
fee. Kids will be placed on
teams in their area, or as close
as possible. For more informa

SQUARE DANCE LESSONS
Pamlico County Recreation
Department will offer square
dance classes beginning Oc
tober 5 in Oriental. Barry
Cuthrell will be instructing the
classes which will be held each

tal Women’s Club Building at a
cost of $6 per couple or $3
single, per night. Each class
will meet from 8-10 pm.

MEETING TO DISCUSS
COAST GUARD CHANGES
The US Coast Guard has
distributed proposed regula
tions on the licensing of person
nel commanding and manning
commercial vessels. These
regulations will affect nearly
all license holders in some way.
Comments have been re
quested and should be received
by the USCG no later than
December 6,1983.
A public meeting will be held
at The Inland Waterway
Treasure Company in Oriental,
on Wednesday, September 15 at
8 pm to discuss these changes
with Lt. Chuck Brinson, USCG.

these regulations is available
at the IWTC for those in
terested.
SIGN LANGUAGE COURSE
TO BE OFFERED AT PTC
A sign language course will
begin at Pamlico Technical
College September 20. This 13
week class will meet on
Tuesdays from 7 to 10 pm.

class and will cost $10.00. For

FLEA MARKET
The Pamlico County United
Tri-County Senior Citizens will
hold a flea market at the old
PTI in Alliance on Saturday,
September 17 from 8:00 am

Proceeds will go towards
facilities upkeep and transpor
tation for the senior citizens.
“MISS FLAME" PAGEANT
The “Miss Flame” Pageant
will be held Saturday night, Oc
tober l, at the Moose Lodge at
7:30 pm.
There will be a reception held
in honor of all contestants on
Tuesday, September 20, at the
Arapahoe Free Will Baptist
Church Fellowship Hall. At this
time, we will discuss the
pageant itself and what the con
testants should wear. There

Edward Christian Church
will have a youth rally for those
in kindergarten through 12th
grade on Friday, September 16,

HISTORICAL FAIR
The Beaufort County
Historical Society will sponsor
a Historical Fair on Saturday,
September 17. The event will
take place at the Haven’s
Wharf Warehouse, located on
the waterfront of the Pamlico
River, just to the right of the
Pamlico River Bridge (US
Highway 17) on West Main
Street in Washington, NC.
“Come as you are”, or dress in
period costume if you wish.
George Washington will be
among distinguished guests
present. There will be a $2.50
donation per person for the
Wine and Cheese Social Hour
that takes place from 7 pm to 8
pm; there will also be a charge
for the auction portion with
donations being taken at the
door from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

the organization will be to

tion in the US Expedition to
Java to study the recent solar
eclipse in June, 1983.
