Aurora Girls Win Sheba Aldridge saved the day for the Trojanettes last Tuesday at Creswell with a last second basket for the 36-35 Aurora win. The Lady Tigers took an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Trojans battled in the second quarter, trading 18-17 at the half. Aurora’s offense was sparked in the third quarter as the Trojanet tes outscored Creswell 14-7. , The Lady Trojans had scoring difficulty in the final quarter, hav ing scored just 3 points with time running out. The Lady Tigers neted 10 points and a 2-point lead. With 12 seconds remaining, Aurora’s steady defender, Marva Brown, stole the ball from Creswell. Brown chunked the ball down court and Creswell’s center tipped the ball into the hand* of Aurora’s Sheba Aldridge. Aldridge’s shot feU through the hoop as time elapsed, for the Lady Trojan win. Sheba Aldridge led the Aurora scoring with 14 points. Lisa Guion and Penny Lewis tallied 6 points apiece. CresweH was led by Mjsty Davenport with 17 points. “Everybody played as I ex pected them to,” said Aurora coach Danny Smith. “I was just tickled with everything.” The Lady Trojans are 1-0 in the Tobacco Belt Conference, 3-0 overall. Jones Sr. Outdoes Pamlico Girls The Pamlico girls were downed by Jones Senior last week 48-30. The Lady Hurricanes had scor ing ailments in the first half-the Lady Trojans did not. Pamlico scored 7 points in the first quarter and none in the second to trail 33-7 at the half. Some of Pamlico’s problems disappeared in the second half. ' The Lady Hurricanes outscored Jones 23-15 but the Lady Trojans had already taken too much of a lead. Elma Smith paced Pamlico’s of fense with 14 points. Crystal Jor dan scored 8 points and Karen Henderson and Tina Metts netted 4 points each. Jones Senior was paced by Kim Murrell with 17 points. The Lady Hurricanes are 0-3 in the Coastal Plains Conference, 0-5 overall. Lreswell Dominates Aurora The Aurora Trojans were destroyed by Creswell in the se cond half last Tuesday night, to fall 77-45. Aurora stayed in the ballgame during the first half, trailing 31-27 > at the close. But in the second half, things fell apart for the Trojans and the ball wouldn’t go through the hoop. The Tigers overpowered Aurora in the points department, scoring 46 to the Trojans’ 18. Aurora was plagued with poor foul shooting. Creswell on the ohter hand, hit roughly 75% of their freethrows. John Davis with 17 points and Arthur Harris with 10 points generated most of Aurora’s of fense. Also scoring were Dale Scott with 7 points; Patrick Barnett 6; Steve Minor and Robert Minor with 2 points each; and Lee Stilley with a point. Danny Moore paced Creswell with 24 points. The Trojans are 0-1 in the Tobacco Belt Conference, 0-3 overall. Pamlico led at the half 33-26. In the second half, the Hurricanes showed the Trojans some offense, outscoring JOnes 54-37. Four Hurricane players scored in double figures. Rodney Dudley paced Pamlico with 16 points. Melvin Dudley chipped in with 14 points. Terral Ollison and George Marshall netted 13 points each. Also scoring were Craig O’Neal and Mike Squires with 6 points each; Vaughn Jones and Hubert Monk with 4 points apiece; and Aurora JVs Suffer Loss The junior Trojans were down ed, 61-57, by the Creswell junior varsity squad last Tuesday night. The junior Trojans had to resort to fouling with 2Vfe minutes remain ing in the game and the junior Tigers nailed their freethrows. Aurora struggled a little in the first half, with Creswell taking the nod 29-19. The Trojans dominated the second half offense 38-32 but couldn’t catch up. Scott Austin pitched out a crowd pleaser at the end of the third quarter. As time was running out, Austin, 8 feet from half court, chunked the ball into the basket. Jeffrey Hollidia paced the junior .Trojans with 18 points. Also pitching in on offense were Bryon Hill with 13 and Ronnie Powell with 10 points. Aurora is 0-1 in the conference, 1-2 overall. Rescheduled The Pamlico vs. Richlands game, originally scheduled for Friday, December 14 was cancell ed. The bulk of .the Richlands var sity squad was ill and unable to. play. The contest has been resqhedul- . ed for Wednesday, January 2 and will be played at Pamlico. The contest between Aurora and Jamesville originally sctleduled for this past Friday night was also cancelled. Due to the length of the Bullets’ football season, their first two basketball games were rescheduled. The game has now been scheduled for Thursday, January 10 and will be played at Jamesville.
