THIS WEEK'S BIBLE THOUGHT BACK TO GOD: Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the un righteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly par don. Isaiah 55:6-7. SILLIEST CONFLICT One speaker at the small hut in teres ting meeting- of old folks in teres ted in old age pensions in the btate Capitol yesterday loudly point ed to the many things that have been done for the young educational fa cilities, recreation facilities and ether things and demanded, "What has been done for the old?" Well, one thing that has been done for the old is to give them edu cation -when they are young. In a gathering where some men were as old as 93, education of the young may have seemed to some like an enterprise for the benefit of a Deo- pie oi a ditierent world. But when old age pensions are provided the system will be set ud not so much for the old, who are now with us but . in the nature of things will soon de part, as for the great majority who Deing young are irresistibly growing oiaer. Nothing could De sillier in North Carolina, or anywhere else than a conflict between the old and the young over the division of the funds which government is able to collect and dispense. Schools are not main tained for sake of children but for the sake of the educated adults which the State needs. Recreational facilities are not provided exclusive ly for the young but also for the stronger, healthier old age to which those who use them will grow. This country is already so shat tered into little tight groups with conflicting interest that It is all but impossible to get any whole thinking anywhere on almost anv nrohlem. But such conflict would be reduced to the ultimate extreme of the ridi culous if the babies and the grandpas should be set to fighting each other under the government of State and to make comfortable and secure the old age of men and women In America have the support of a vast number of Americans of all ages. Such pensions are needed in our social order and not merely for the sake of the old. But more than old age pensions are needed nr nnv. thing else, there is needed in Amer ica, desperately needed, a thinking in the terms of a whole nation and a whole life and not merely in the stagnant terms of the isolated per. sonal interest of any one interested" group o r age.
