from Norfolk, Va., where she spent
several days with her daughter, Miss

went an operation. Miss Fowler's
condition is reported as satisfactory
and she is expected to return home
shortly.

guests of Mrs. Riddick's sister, Mrs.
L. L. Lewis, and Mr. Lewis, in Eden
ton, on Sunday.

valescing. Claude Brinn, who is a student at
Fork Union Military Academy, was
at home with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Rosser Brinn, for . a brief visit
on Monday night. On Tuesday, when
he left for Norfolk, to take part in
the baseball game between Fork
Union and the Naval Training Sta
tion, he was accompanied by his
father and by Rob Harris, Tim Rufus
Brinn, Jesse Lee Harris and Robert
Brinn, who witnessed the game.
J. M. Hollowell, who lives near
Winfall, is reported as critically ill.
Mrs. J. A. Watson and her son,
Baylor, of Washington,. D. C, are
guests of Mrs. A. A. Butler, in Hert
ford. William E. White, Jr, who was a
oatient at Duke Hospital, in Dur
ham, for several days, returned
home on Saturday. '
brandy's Minstrel"
At Snow Hill May 29
A group of ten women will present
"Mirandy's Minstrel", .at Snow Hill
school on Friday,' May 29, at 8:W
o'clock. There will be plenty to
amuse both old and young. The pro
gram will include cross-fire Jokes,
gags, three monologues, and a play,
"Mrs. Black's Pink Tea." The pro
ceeds will go to help defray the -cost
of painting the inside of Woodland
Church.
Ice cream will be sold.
A small admission fee will ' be
charged, and the public is ocridially
invited.
