BIBLE THOUGHT FOR WEEK BE NOT DISMAYED: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dis mayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee: yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION! ' Now is the time for parents to take the steps to safeguard their children from the peril of diphtheria. When winter comes and we learn that a child here, one there, another yonder, is ill with diphtheria, ; and we see the disease spreading, realize the possibility of an epidemic, at is too late to take the steps which should have teen taken backi, in the summer to protect our children. It may prove too late to save a child's life. Now is the -time to act-One treatment, at the small cost of one dollar, will give Immunity, to diphth eria for life. Sorely,: no parent will neglect this opportunity to safeguard the children from the danger of this disease which carries such a high mortality rate. There ought not to be one single case of ' diphtheria in Perquimans next, winter. There will not be if ' ' every parent takes advantage of the opportunity to prevent it. It is gratifying to note that the physicians of the county have agreed to reduce the price of the treatment. It is to be hoped that the parents will do their part. LEAVE FOR NEW YORK Mrs. J. A.. Ferry and Mrs. R. A, White, of J. C Blanchard and Company, will leave Sunday for New York City, where they will spend all next week. Mesdamel Perry and White will purchase a full line of early fall ready-to-wear for Blanch- ard's while m New York. Smith-Douglass Refund $100,000 To Customers Norfolk, Va. Oscar P. Smith, president of Smith-Douglas Com pany, Inc., fertilizer manufacturers, announces that his company is im mediately mailing to about 12,000 customers a total of nearly $100,000 in rebate checks. These checks represent savings ef fected by the growers by reason of the Smith-Douglas policy of guaran teeing prices against their own de cline, and also by reason of the spec ial discounts allowed ..for early pay ment of fertilizer and for cash on delivery; or cash with order pay ments. The discounts for early pay ment were, in many instances, allow ed at time of payment, so that the actual savings to the grower are greatly in excess of the amount be ing refunded. The checks are going to growers who ordered fertilizer and paid for it at a higher price than the lowest Smith-Douglas price for its goods of the same grade in the same area during the season. Mr. Smith called attention to the fact that there had been no decline) in the price of Orange Tobacco Fer tilizer, because the company estab lishes that price before the season opens and then maintains that price throughout the entire season. There fore no refunds on account of decline in price were due 'on purchases of Orange. In commenting upon the disburse ment of this large sum, Mr. Smith said: "Some people claim we are big hearted in returning this substantial sum to our customers. " Frankly, we disagree with that;, idea altogether. We are only attempting to do what we consider the straightforward, fair and just thing to our customers. We are attempting to justify the faith they place in us.?' W Hs.-'JMtirAnl: . -h. .
