TAGS EEC THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY, HERTFORD. N. C, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER II, 1936. LONGEST NAME IN V v, ; 1; WORLD SHORTENED Hawaiian Prince Lops Chunk Off Monicker. Honolulu. Bicentenary observances this year of the birth of King Same hameha X will be attended by a direct descendant with the longest name In the world, officials of the ceremonies hare announced. I Jung namenameua was tne ruler ana j warrior who first welded the Hawaiian 'Islands Into a kingdom. The descendant who is to be present at the ceremonies is the great-great. great-great-great-grandnephew of the king. His name, which is declared to be without a parallel in the worlds is: "Samuel Albert Frledrlch Henry Wil liam Crownlnburg Apalo Kapllkaui mamokuaonalanl Kamehameha Amalu." It is a combination of the names of descendants of Hawaii's great king and a princely German family that inter married. I In actual life the royal descendant fdoes not lay much stress either on "his lineage or on the length of his taame. 1 He is known as Sam Amalu, which I corresponds somewhat to the fashion whereby the present king of England, jwhen prince of Wales, was known as ! David Windsor. 1 The desirability of this abbreviation ixjf the name Is somewhat heightened -I by the fact that Sam Amalu is merely j freshman at the University of Ha waii and freshmen here are treated by i upper classmen in about the same way I mat iney are weuieu an uvci tun Iworld. ! However, privately, Sam will admit ,'hla identity. ' Sam follows the customs of his sires jin that he never wears a necktie, but I he concedes enough to modern life to I wear a blue scarf around his throat land often a blue sash. Sometimes he carries a cane. French Honor 2,112 Who Died in U. S. Revolution Versailles. A marble tablet, on which are inscribed the names of the 2,112 French officers and men who died In the United States while fighting for American independence, will be un veiled at the Chateau de Versailles June 17. The ceremony is being arranged by, Warrington Dawson, American author, historian and diplomat This tablet it to be placed in the American room of the chateau, in a big central panel un derneath a portrait of Louis XVL After six years of research in French archives, Mr. Dawson has compiled this authoritative list of French soldiers and sailors who died during the Revo lution. Mr. Dawson has consulted official and family records in preparation of this list, which Is to be published by the Society of Paris Americanists. It gives the place of death, also certain particulars concerning the birth and military services of almost all these French soldiers. Mr. Dawson's research indicates that they are burled la scores of places along the Atlantic seaboard. Members of the Order of the Cin cinnati, the Sons of the American Rev olution and Daughters of the American Revolution will be present at the dedi cation of the tablets. June 17 will be the one hundred and fifty-third anniversary of the return to France of Rochambeau's army, which reached Brest on June 17, 1783, having embarked mainly from Boston. jError in Time Is Made Smaller by New Clock Sydney, N. S. W. Father W. O'Leary. director of the Rlvervlew Jesuit col lege observatory, has completed nn as 'tronomknl clock which, according to 'experts, Is nearer perfection In Mme- "ikeeping than any other chronometer .jyet Invented. j With the discovery of a score of new jstars already to his credl?. Father 'I O'Leary spent 11 years 1j research rwork on the new clock nd another fye'aton Its construction. Tne new principle or atytoiuteiy tree fyendulum movement which he has 'adopted is believed to b an improve ment on that employed by Short, whose clock is In standard use in the world's 'leading observatories. ! Electrically driven, the new clock will not need the slightest regulation and, according to Father O'Leary, one dare not even touch It It Is so sens! itlve that an earth movement two or 'three thousand miles away will cans :a slight variation In its accuracy. Home Shortage High Salt Lake City. There is a shortage of 1,700,000 homes In the United States Snd 10,000,000 homes are below decent standards of living, Allan T. Sanford, Utah director National Emergency council, said here in predicting pros- liwniy ior iue omiuing iraues aouu. Indian Population Increases Fastest Washington-The-Indian popula tion is the fastest growing race In the United States, Indian Affairs Commissioner John Collier declares. , Interviewing Sgraduatai students registered for the race'relatlons'de-C partment of 7 ale university, he said, "In 1035 the excess of Indian births over deaths amounted' ty 9.2 per thousand; a higher percentage than that of the white, or .negro popula tions." ..v 'iv Why, Mr. La Salle! liBiiiiiiif tit3 m iif History does not reveal that Rene Robert Cavalier Le Sieur de La Salle carried any such fair passen ger when he came to Texas cen turies ago. Ia fact he didn't This is merely Neila Goodelle, radio star climbing the rigging of La Salle's ship en the stage of "The Cavalcade of Texas," historical drama at the Texas Centennial Exposition in Dallas.
