A SURE FOUNDATION: Never theless the foundation of God stand th sure, having this seal, The -Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the' name ot Christ depart from iniquity. II Tim othy 2:19. DO YOUR DUTY TUESDAY I Next Tuesday is Election Day. We are all going to the polls and vote for the candidates of our choice. In dications are that the vote will be a big one. We are going to the polls in big numbers, for it seems that the average voter is much more de cided this year than usual. Parti cularly is this true with reference to the presidential candidates. More so than ever before, perhaps, though it is a note which is always harped upon, the idea is abroad in the land that we are at the cross roads, that now is the time to de cide whether we shall go to the dogs or not. Not every one feels this way, of course. But there is a surprising number who do. It has been dinned into our ears that the country must go to ruin unless this candidate lb elected; and, on the other hand, it has been hammered into our con sciousness that it is certainly going to the dogs unless that candidate is elected. Indeed, so much of this sort of thing do we hear that it is rather surprising that there have not been more cases like that of the poor fel low suffering from a nervous break down who said he fully expected to wake up the morning after election and look out of his window to see that all the houses are being pulled down and everything destroyed. Now, it happens that I am going to vote for Franklin D. Koosevelt. 1 believe very firmly in the President. I hope to see him re-elected. I be lieve he will be re-elected. You, perhaps, expect to vote for Mr. Landon, and you believe in him to quite the same extent that I do in Mr. Roosevelt, and you are equal ly hopeful of seeing your candidate win out. One of these two candidates, re presenting the two major parties, is going to be at the head of the gov ernment for the next four years, and, everything which has been said to the contrary notwithstanding, the iPeanut Bags (JNew and Semi-New) Seuiog TrjigeIdy Ore Get Our Prices and Save Money JUST RECEIVED BIG SHIPMENT Heaters and Cook Stoves i Heaters Priced From to 0379 STOVE PIPE - ELBOWS - DAMPERS AND COLLARS We have on hand for quick sale the follow ing: i RICHMOND CIRCULATOR Uses Coal or Wood. ,.$72.50 value, now only 1 RICIBIOND CIRCULATOR ; ; . , Burns Hard Coal - Soft Coal -r Coke or WoocL $52.50 value. Why not continue the man in office who is responsible -for conditions which have made us safer, more' comfort able, happier, you and I? Why not give him the opportunity to continue the work he' has begun?' He should be allowed to- complete the program,. Did you lose your savings in a bank failure ? . Maybe you didn't, but many did, you know. Don't forget that jt was Franklin - D. Roosevelt who arranged that that couldn't hap pen again. . The money you deposit in the bank is -safe and if the bank should fail you would ofl'paid every penny of it. That never was . the case before, ' If he hadn't done anything else during his ad ministration, this .alone would be sufficient reason to reelect him. ; ,'; '.'-. .:r..:- You may not approve of some of the changes which have- come about during the hist four years as a re sult of some of the administration's activities. Neither do L. Probably Mr. Roosevelt himself dosent. But there were bound to be mistakes, you know. Everybody makes them, even Mr. Roosevelt's critics. They are hu man, too. A lot of government money has been spent, and that seems to be the big kick of his opposers. But wasn't it better for the government to give money to relieve human misery than that people be allowed to starve when there was gold and to spare? I think so. Let's go to the polls in big num bers next Tuesday, and let's vote for Franklin D. Roosevelt. RYLAND McCauley Byrum and a party of friends from Gdldsboro, were visiting relatives here Sunday. Roy Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Jor dan went to Elizabeth City Sunday afternoon to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jor dan's young son, Wilbur, who is con valescing at the Albemarle Hospital after an operation for appendicitis. Mrs. G. A. Boyce and children visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis, near Sunbury, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Ward and little daughter, Lelia Fa ye, were in Eden ton last Wednesday morning. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. J. T. By rum, near Cannons Ferry. It is to be deplored that Sunday School in the community has been discontinued. It is true that with the school building being used daily for the lower grades from Chowan High School no suitable place seems available. However, should the com munity wish a Sunday School badly enough, a way could be found to have it. More stress should be laid on the teaching of the Bible as the knowlege gained from this Book will be a source of joy through all the years. Mrs. Jessie Leroy Byrum and little son and Mrs. Byrum visited Mrs. N. E. Jordan Friday. t !
