GOOD TIME TO ORGANIZE A COMMERCE BODY Speaking of prosperity, and every body is speaking of it right now, you know; it is years since there was so much Optimism in business. As a matter of fact, it is years since we folks here in our own little community have been so prosperous as we are this fall. We are putting up new buildings, making improve ments here and there, starting new businesses, adding side lines to our regular lines, expanding in many di rections. The prices of farm pro- some lIHMIOJI-r V And speaking of the matter, as every one is, for it always comes up in any little v" group ,of, folks who gather to- discuss the general con ditions in Hertford,, they .say. we ought to have a greater share in the general prosperity; They will also tell you what must be done in oroer to bring about the desired condition. All agree that in order for Hert ford to grow that there must be more smokestacks here, industrial plants, larger payrolls to liven up business. Everybody agrees on that They say we've just got to have something doing in the way of manu factoring if we really wish to share as community hrthe propeflty that should be ours. - Arid they will tell : you another thing, too, if you listen. Strangely enough.they all agree ort that,, also. They say that, though we have the natural advantages at hand, that there is no one to put the thing across, to sell Hertford to the in terests with money to build factor ies, no one to induce the location of any kind of a manufactoring plant. They will tell you that in order to handle this situation there should be some leader to head an organization which has for its objective the build ing up of the community, who would take steps to induce men with money to invest to consider the Town of Hertford as a location for industrial plants.to call attention to the desir ability of the location and so on. And after they all agree on that point nothing more is said. They stop right there. Nobody does any thing, as Mark Twain is credited with "saying about those who com plained of the weather. This seems strange when one con siders that these men who indulge in this sort of talk and reach these con clusions are men who have made a duce are better than they have been for a long time, and every one has success of their own affairs by going I Look Your Best For The Ho iliday; Make the most of good time occasions from now 'til after New Year's! Both teams are hoping for a game before Thanksgiving and a plenty full schedule for the rest of the bas ketball season. . The girls have been playing the girls local team on Friday and they have been having some good games. The boys have "been playing a few games with the local boys and this scrimmage has helped a great deal ' I predicted Duke to take .Carolina by a small score. I was right about Duke taking the game but I sure did miss the score business. The Duke Blue Devils plastered the boys from the Hill 27 to 7 in a battle played before thirty-five thou sand spectators. Ace Parker, Capt of the Duke Eleven, and who will hit the All American list this year, re turned a Carolina kick-off for 108 yards for a Duke score. Some new and beautiful blocking by the Devils. A hundred and five yards is a long run in anybody's game. But tragedy also marked that beautiful run made by Parker. A spectator, a rormer Carolina man, dropped dead with a heart attack as the "Ace" sprinted the length of the field for Duke. I was plenty wrong on the Army and Notre Dame score. .1 predicted Army to take the Irish, but Notre Dame came back in beautiful style and swamped the boys of the Army. This week I think I will try a few more predictions. I pick Fordham to take Georgia. I may be wrong, but I pick Notre Dame to Continue their climb after last Saturday over Army and to defeat Northwestern. My opinion is that Georgia Tech will defeat Florida. A few others are: Stanford over California. Oregon over Oregon State. Indiana over Purdue. North Carolina over South Caroli na. Southern Methodist over Baylor. Ohio State over Michigan. Darthmouth over Princeton. Texas Christian over Rice. Colgate over Syracuse. Harvard over Yale. Wonder how many of these I hit and; how many I miss. litt i t vv. im dim Aini7i?
