SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY

at a surprise birthday party, in honor
of their daughter, Marie. The hono
red was presented' with many lovely
and useful gifts. "Bridge" and
Hearts" were played during the
evening. Sara Ward was winner of
high score prize in bridge. Syble
Rogerson was winner of high score
prise in hearts.
The guests were invited to the
dining room. The main attraction
was a lovely birthday cake lighted
with candles. The guests cut the
cake for the ring and thimble. The
thimble was cut by Katheryn Jessup.
No one cut the ring. Delicious ice
cream,- cake and nuts were served.
Easter bunnies and chicks made very
attractive favors.

The Winfall Home Demonstration
club met with Mrs. Joel Hollowell
Wednesday afternoon, with Mrs. Hol
lowell and Miss Celesta Godwin as

Mrs. D. L. Barber presided over
the meeting as the president, Mrs.
E. N. Miller was absent.

lightful birthday dinner, in celebra
tion of his seventy-first birthday on
Sunday, when Mrs. Lane entertained
at their home near Winfall.

UP RIVER MISSIONARY
SOCIETY HOLDS MEETING
The Up-River Wowans Missionary
Society met Wednesday noon at the
home of Mrs. Lucius Winslow. The
meeting was opened by a Negro
spiritual, "Its Me, O, Lord," sung by
Mrs. D. A. Winslow, accompanied by
guitar.
Scripture, Matthew 7-7-6, com
ments on same, and a prayer, were
read as the Devotional. At roll call
each member responded "with a
Scripture text on the subject of
work. The lesson was conducted in
a very interesting manner by Mrs.
Eunice Winslow who based her re
marks on the study book "Racial
Understanding" and also using a
targe map of Africa. A very inter
esting discussion followed. A con
test on some of the Missionaries
working in Africa and at other sta
tions was then given, Mrs. Eunice
Winslow winning the prize, a tiger
lily bulb, with the following veue
