If it had not been I would not have observed it," she said. J. K. Miller, father of the dead boy, Rice Miller, testified that he and his two boys had been to church, and that he got out of the car which Rice was driving, with young Henry in the rear seat, at Sawyer's Service station, which he estimated to be about. 200 yards from his gate and the scene of the accident. He testified that he crossed the road to enter the filling station and that he. saw a car coming so fast that he stopped to look at it and watched it; that it was going faster1 a ear go on the country road. He said he kept his eye on the car and saw -the Impact with the car his boy i was driving. Asked to estimate.' the speed at which the car was driven, Mr. Miller said, "I should say it was going 70 miles, at the least'' . . - u v ' Henry' Miller, a little lad who ap , peared .to be eleven or- perhaps twelve: years of age, testified that he was sitting on the left Bide of the rear seat, and that he saw his broth er put: out his hand Just before the accident occurred. , :v Dalbert Horton, who testified that his home was at Whaleyville, but that he is at present living in Nor folk, Va., testified that he was near the scene when the accident occur red, driving in the same direction; that he was a little beyond the curve when the car driven by Thach pass ed him, and that the Thach car pick ed, up speed just as it passed, and that when the .car went by so quick he looked down to see how fast the driver of his car was driving, and that the indicated speed was some where between 40 and 60 miles. He said he did not remember accurately as he did not know anything was going to happen. The witness would not say at what rate of speed' the ITiach car was traveling. He was, however, watching the car and the road, he testified, and that he had glanced away for perhaps a second ! when he heard the impact and look ed up and saw" one end of the Che vrolet up in the air' above the dust. Jor dan, with the president, Mrs. Mark Greeonr. nresidinir. and with Mrs. I. L. White leading the devotional. There were interesting talks by Mrs. Mayes, Mrs. Matt Mathews and Mrs. T. W. Perry. Others taking part on the program were Mrs. G. C. Buck and Mrs. J. E. Everett. There was a delightful social hour following the program, when ice cream and cake were served. Thoie present included Mrs. Mark Gregory, Mrs. G. C. Buck, Mrs. E. W. Mayes, Mrs. Watt Mathews, Mrs. T. W. Perry, Mrs. Ed Everett, and Mrs. I. L. White.
