BETHEL CLUB MEETS
The Bethel home demonstration
club met Friday afternoon at the
school house with Mrs. E. J. Proctor
and Mrs. L. A. Proctor as hostesses.
Mrs. J. M. Fleetwood, president, pre
sided The collect was repeated and
a business session was held.
Mrs. Thomas Nixon of Hertford
gave a short talk and Mrs. M. T.
Griffin, who attended the convention
held in Raleigh in August, gave the
club a very interesting talk of her
trip. Miss Gladys Hamrick gave out
very helpful booklets. Two contests
were enjoyed with Mrs. J. B. Bas
night and Mrs. Thomas Nixon winn
ing prizes. The hostesses served
dainty refreshments.

Fine in Puddings
APPLE batter pudding belongs to
the first crisp days of tall. Its
spicy fragrance appeals to sharp
ened appetites. Serve it warm with
oream from a pitcher, hard sauce
or lemon sauce. The tested recipe
follows :
Apple Batter Pudding
4 to S tart apples
",i cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
V teaspoon cinnamon
V cvp hot water
1 egg
Vi cup sugar
1 tablespoon softened butter
V, cup bread flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons butter
Core and pare apples and cut in
siices, crosswise. Put into deep pud
ding dish, sprinkle with sugar and
cinnamon, add two tablespoons of
butter cut in small pieces and pour
water over the top.
Spread over the top a batter made
as follows:
Beat the egg light, add the sugar
g idually and continue beating,
then the Eoftened but,,' and last
the flour mixed with the baking
powder. Dot over the top of the
batter with two more tablespoons
of butter, and bake in a moderately
hot oven (400 F.) until the apples
are soft; this will take about Vt
hour.

Tonsils Removed
Joe Towe, Jr., underwent an ope
ration for the removal of his tonsils
on Thursday in Elizabeth City. After
recuperating at the home of his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
Pritchard, he returned home with his
mother and little sister, Suzana, on
Sunday.
