4 V ( : Methodist Congregation f. Presents ; Pastor Purse A'' At the morning service.' on the Sunday preceding ' the - annual con- , ference of the MethodiBt Church, a substantial purse, , made tap ' by the voluntary contributions of members of tile church, was presented to the Rev.. D. M. Sharpe, pastor of the Hertford Methodist Church, and Mrs. - Sharpe, on which occasion Mrs. R. - T. Clarke read, as she ; made the presentation, the following original poem 'When Conference met two years ago, We all were in a stew. FotCfour year is the limit here , And that we all well knew. m4SZlbmtfoZMl&v to fi i ' And leave us all behind, . . . And a new man to fill our pulpit Wat the thought in every mind. We wondered whom they'd send to If he could preach and visit, too, And if he'd help us raise the debt Or still let us struggle through. So all turned out to hear you, The first Sunday that you came, To see,, if we would like you And you' would like us the same. And we've fond you true and faithful In all interests of the church, And we've learned to love you And Mrs. Sharpe so much. For you've taken such an interest In every member of the church As Well as in finances, Which pleased us very much. The Woman's Missionary Society We think should love you best, For you've helped us lift the burden Of that ebt which was a pest. So in true appreciation For all that you have done, We present this little token Which we think you've truly won. We want you dressed up so fine When you to Conference go, That even Bishop Kern will say, "Why Hertford's fine, you know!" And then when you come back to us, To serve another year We trust we'll be more faithful In all church work so dear. So I present to you and Mrs. Sharpe this small token of love and appreciation from the membership of the Hertford Methodist Church. A host of friends are delighted to know that Rev. Mr. Sharpe was ap pointed to serve another year in the Hertford Church at the annual conference last week.
