Universal General
Universal denotes all without ex
ception, general denotes the major
ity or nearly all, says a writer in
London Tit-Bits Magazine. Exces
sive greed is universally con
demned; a mean man is generally
greedy. Love is a universal emo
tion. Superstition is general among
people living in places untouched by
civilization.

TO THE EDITOR OF
THE PERQUIftlANS WEEKLY:
In answer to your inquiry, I beg to say that
it was with personal regret I learned of tht?
resignation of the Hon. W. H. Oakey, Jr., as
Judge of the Recorder's Court of Perquimans
County. He had served for so many years in
this capacity with such acknowledged ability
and uniform satisfaction, that personally I
was wishing the public the continued benefit
of his long experience in continuing him with
out interruption in this office. I had no
thought of that position for myself and cer
tainly under no circumstances known to me at
the time would I have opposed him for that
office. But since the Commissioners have ap
pointed me to complete his term, I deeply ap
preciate the suggested honor and this oppor
tunity for service, and I do here and now de
clare my candidacy for the ensuing term, and
I take this opportunity to ask the vote of every
citizen in the County at the approaching Dem
ocratic Primary, and I shall feel deeply grate
ful for any support given me and promise to
serve the public to the best of my ability.
Respectfully,
J.S. McNIDER
