Galatians 6:7. ASa1aJTE! Those flags along Church and Mar ket streets, will surely compel notice both from home people and from the transients just passing through. In both cases they will serve to call attention to the fact that enough pride is being taken in this town to dress it -up on national holidays and for events which have only a local significance. Eager to give recognition where recognition is due The Perquimans Weekly hereby salutes the Towi Criers and Messrs. J. G. Roberson and V. N. Darden, who concepted and engineered the project, and the mer chants who displayed their willing ness to cooperate in a worthy civic undertaking by readily purchasing the flags and flagstaff's. SPEAK UP E Here now is the opportunity for that group of easy-chair sportsmen who continually bewail the lack of athletic activities in Hertford to let themselves be heard before a com mittee on sports from the Town Criers. It is understood here that the com mittee, headed by A. Linwood Skin ner, has plans to present at the Fri day night meeting (an announcement of which is carried in the news columns of this issue) and wants to hear other plans and suggestions. Everyone in any way interested is urged to be present and to be heard at this meeting which has as its aim, organized athletic activities. VOTE TOMORROW Even if you can't find a single favorite among the candidates lined up and waiting for the starting gun in tomorrow's races you are urged to exercise your constitutional right to vote and show up at the polls any way if only for the sake of giving Perquimans its largest vote in his tory. The Perquimans Weekly is inclined to agree with Archie T. Lane, candi date for a seat on the county board of commissioners, who after the Bel videre rally, was heard to say, '"The crying baby always gets the bottle," meaning that results are most fav orable where the demand is loudest, whether the demanding is by the county board or by the crying baby. Therefore, the larger the vote the larger the consideration no matter from what source we want consideration. OF ONE ACCORD Frankly, we admit that we do not know how badly Whiteston and Ni canor need the "turnpike Road, but we do know that it has long been a! political campaign promise to the precinct voters. We must also admit, that, accord- ing to speeches at - the Democratic rally at Baker's Store Saturday! night, Nicanor voters can hardly go 1 wrong on that issue, regardless of, how they vote in the county repre-. sentative race. Brown and Benton have both promised to strain every nerve and muscle to get that road; Benton if re-elected, and Brown if elected. JUST A WORD, PLEASE! While the editorship of The Per quimans Weekly has changed hands with this issue, the hope is here ex pressed that the support of the local merchants, the enthusiasm of the county correspondents and the inter est of the readers; will continue.- And while the new editor cannot hope to capture the fine ,style in writing that is solely ' Mattie Lister White's, every effort will be made to continue to bring to Perquimans Weekly readers complete and unbias ed accounts of news happenings cal culated to be of interest to Perquim- Ana f!nunt.v. normlf Tto 'nnlinioa will remain basically the same "a week ly newspaper devoted to the up building of Hertford and Perquimans .:- County." .
