During 36 Years In
Business
Since its organization in 1901 The
Hertford Banking Company has
shown steady, continued growth and
enjoyed progress in all banking lines.
Located on-United States Highway
17 at the corner of Market and
Church Streets, the bank building it
self is a landmark of strength and de
pendability. Serving the people of
this community for 38 years, this in
stitution has had a major part in the
upbuilding of the county and town
and is. anxious to servesjn every way
possible consistent with good bank
ing policies.
Every protection is given its de
positors that any bank throughout
the United States can give. It is a
member of the Federal Deposit In
surance Corporation, where a maxi
mum of $5,000 insurance is allowed
each depositor. It te a member of
the American Bankers Association
and the Nbrtb Carolina Bankers Asso
ciation. Theslatest burglar alarm
systems are a part of the building's
equipment
The banking quarters were made
larger several years ago with the re
moval from the building of the Hert
ford Post Office. Since that time
gradual improvements : and expan
sions hav been in order until now
the banking1 facilities and arrange
ments challenge the supremacy of
any other banking institution in the
State.
Modern, convenient, airy quarters
dominate where every effort la made
to take care of public needs efficiently
and promptly. Recently the direc
tors have found it necessary to in
crease the number of safety deposit
boxes on account of the -unusual de
mand for these convenient places of
safety for Important documents and
items of personal value. The boxes
are for rent at reasonable rates.
A capable board : of directors is
composed of Dr. E. S. White, W. F.

Sinclair Station
Busy Enterprise
Joe & Bill's Located on
Site of First Filling
Station Doing Busi
ness In Hertford
The modern service station of Joe
and Bill, located on -Market Street, is
ort the site of Hertford's first filling
station. Additions, modernizations,
hew equipment and satisfied custom
ers have made this one of the largest
and busiest stations in the section.
Joe and Bill's was once on United
States Highway 17 before Dobb
Street was repaved, widened and de
signated as the principal artery north
and south. The moving of the high
way, however, has not affected the
service station's business with local
automobile owners.
Dispensing the famous line of Sin
clair products, for which Mr. To we
(Joe) is agent, as well as U. S. tires
and tubes and U. S. batteries, one will
find a splendid assortment of accesso
ries. Gradually adding to various
modeiin features and equipment, the
station today is practically a one-stop
service station. Tires and tubes and
their repair is one of the station's
outstanding services. The only thing
lacking is automobile repairing; wt
shop work. Road service is anSfiQm
at all hours.
J. H. Towe. who heads the
zation, is a citizen born and
in Perquimans County and is
