HOLDS PICNIC The Woman's Missionary Society of Woodland Church held its regular monthly meeting last Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Jack Benton had charge of the devotional. At the conclusion of the business meeting, Mrs. Henry! Cartwright, chairman of the program committee, had charge of the pro gram. Mrs. Cartwright, assisted by seven of the members, gave a respon-J sive reading, after which Mrs. Eddie Harrell and Mrs. Jack Benton sang a duet, "More Like the Master." Mrs. Odell Cartwright gave the meditation, "We Shall Build On." A short dia logue was given, "Pioneers of Educa tion in Brazil," by Mrs. Ralph Har rell, Mrs. Elmer Wood and Mrs. Ashby Jordan. The group was dis missed by prayer. At the close of the meeting a picnic dinner was spread and all enjoyed the happy informality of an out-door meal. About 3 o'clock ice cream was served. A IDEO HOSTESS TO SOCIETY Mrs. Nathan Ward was hostess t the Woman's Missionary Society of Whiteville Grove Baptist Church on. Saturday afternoon. The meeting was opened by singing "Come Women Wide Proclaim." The president, Mrs. W. T. Smith, conducted the Bible study, using the topic "Jesus and Forgiveness," Matt. 18:22-35. Mrs. Smith was also in charge of the pro gram, the topic being "Cuba Fifty Years Ago." Those taking part were Mrs. C. V. Ward, Mrs. Maude Chap pell, Miss Olive Layden, Mrs. Nathan Ward and Mrs. T. P. Layden. A delightful social hour was enjoy ed during which the hostess served delicious punch and cakes. Those present were: Mrs. J. J. Jessup, Mrs. Maude Chappell, Miss Olive Layden, Mrs. T. P. Layden, Mrs. C. V. Ward, Mrs. Laura Ward, Mrs. Annie Turner, Mrs. Tollie Twine, Mrs. W. T. Smith and the hostess. BIRTHDAY PARTY A birthday party was erven on August 18th, at the Community House by Mrs. Brooks Whedbee, hon oring the eighth birthday of her daughter, Penelope Blount Whedbee.! Decorions were pink and green. A birthday cake with eight pink candles formed the table centerpiece, with tall silver candlesticks adding to the beauty of the table. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Hollowell Nixon, served ice cream to the little guests.
