I "ier OWL SHOW SUNDAY NIGHT JANUARY 1 AT 12:01 "Mr. Doodle Kicks Off" "Mr. Doodle Kicks Off" presents Joe Penner, popular radio and screen comedian, in the role of a daffy grid iron hero, in a comedy which pokes fun at collegiate football and campus life. The story, soon to be seen on the local screen, is said to be replete with songs, romance and comedy. It concerns a shy collegian whose only ambition is to lead his own orchestra. His father, however, has other ideas; he is determined that his son shall be come a sensational gridiron hero, even though the young man hates athletics! To further his plans for his son, the father enters into a con spiracy with school authorities. They promise to do their best to make the young man a football celebrity, if the old man will agree to make a sub stantial endowment to the school when this miracle is accomplished. Joe Penner, of course, is cast as the lad whose fight to keep out of football tog.s meets with lailure, es - pecially when pretty June Travis as the college president s co-ed daughter, Winslow. being the same land conveyed to said Mr. and Mrs. Worth Winslow, of I Sam Banks by Wilson Turner, and re Norfolk, Va., spent Christmas Day'ference to said deed is hereby made with Mr. Winslow's parents, Mr. and! for further description. Dec.2,9,1630Jan.6 NOTICE OP SALE OF VALUABLE REAL PROPERTY 'By virtue of the power vested in me by a certain Deed of Trust execut ed by Sam Banker and wife, Susan Banks, to George J. - Spence, Trustee, dated November 15, 1935, and record ed., in Deed Book 20 at Page 367 of the Office of the Register of Deeds of Perquimans County, . default having been made in the indebtedness therein Secured, and -at the request of the holder hi said notes; I' shall sell for cash at the Court House door of Per quimans County to the highest biddei on the 23nJ day, of January, 1939, at 12 H., the property conveyed In said deed of trust and described as follows: ;,A certain tract or parcel of land, lying. And being in New Hope Town ship, Perquimans County, North. Car olina, and more particularly describ ed and bounded,' as follows, le, Bound ed on the North by Earl Perry, on the East by Ernest Morse and Henry Godfrey, and on the South by Henrjrt Godfrey- and wr tlje -west by; Mill Road, containing sixty-six acres, and enters the scheme. As the football assistant-coach, Richard Lane finds it practically im possible to make a grid star out of such soft timber. He devises a series of trick plays which make quarterback Penner shine without jeopardizing his limbs, and the would-be band-leader soon becomes famous as a pigskin marvel. Counterpointing this amusing situ ation is the odd. affliction of the young man which brings about uproarious complications. A queer nervous re-1 flex causes him to kick whenever he hears the strains of "Pop Goes the Weasel." It is this complex that re sults in the story's side-splitting climax. Filmed in Pasedena's famous Rose Bowl, and on the University of Cali fornia at Los Angeles campus, "Mr. Doodle Kicks Off" was directed by Leslie Goodwins from an original ; story by mark Kelly, adapted, to me . screen by Bert Granet.
