Winslow has returned to her home in Fayetteville, after an extended visit with Mrs. Clyde Mc- Callum. Week-end at Home Tom White, of Durham, and Zack White, a student at Duke University, were week-end guests of their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. White. Zack had as his guest Wakeman Giwens, also a student at Duke. Week-end at Home Lee Winslow, a student at Fish burne Military Academy, was the week-end guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Winslow. Week-end with Mother Hollowell Cox Nixon, a student at State College, Raleigh, was with his mother, Mrs. T. J. Nixon. Week-end Here Miss Eugenia Gregory, a student at Chowan College, Murfreesboro, was the week-end guest of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Gregory. BRIDE-ELECT HONORED Miss Eatherine Jessup delightfully entertained a number of her friends at a bridge party and miscellaneous shower last Friday evening in .honor of Miss Hazel Mayes, bride-elect. Guests included Misses Jean White, Bernice White, Ruth Nachmah, Grace Knowles, Virginia White, Ruth El: liott, Margaret Mayes and the hon- oree, Miss Hazel Mayes, Mes dames John Broughton, Willie Ainsley and Marshall Owens. High score prize was won by Miss Grace Knowles, Miss Bernice White received prise for low score and Miss Mayes was presented a guest prize. The hostess served a tempting sal ad course. Miss Mayes received numerous lovely gifts. 1 I Mi III '1 - A Attend Cc.; cation 1,157 Beta Club Mem bers Gathered In Ra leigh Friday and Sat urday Ten Hertford young people attend ed the State Convention of Beta Clubs at the Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh last Friday . and - Saturday. It was the largest convention of its kind ever held in a hotel in North Carolina. 1.157 club, members from North Carolina being in attendance. Clyde Erwin, State superintendent of public instruction, and. Senator Robert R. Reynolds were among- the speakers. The convention wound up Saturday night with a huge dance in the Sir Walter, ballroom. Beta Clubs throughout North Car olina are composed, of outstanding students, honor students, so to speak; those making a high average in all high school studies.' Among those who attended from Hertford were Miss Ruth Hollowell, Miss Maewood Pierce, Bill Cox, Billy Blanchard, Clarke Stokes, Cedric Moore, Harrell Johnson, Durward Reed, Zack Harris, and Miss Esther Jennings Evans, member of the Per quimans County High School faculty. BIRTHDAY PARTY Joe Towe, Jr., entertained a num ber of his little friends last Friday evening at the home of his grand mother, Mrs. J. H. Towe, Sr., at a birthday party. The home was beautifully decorat ed for the occasion, the Easter motif being effectively carried out. The birthday cake was topped by six candles. After the little folk had enjoyed various games and stunts, the cake was cut and served "with ice cream. Each guest received an Easter basket filled with Easter candy as a favor. CIRCLE MEETING The Young Business Woman's Cir cle of the Baptist Church met Mon day evening at the home of Mrs. Jimmy Smith. Miss Marian Raper was in charge of the program. Oth ers taking part in the program were Miss Marian Phelps, Miss Doris Gregory, Miss Blanche Butler, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. J. S. Bass, Jr. After the program a business session was held. During the social hour a salad course was served. About twenty members were present. . Mrs, Margaret Skinner White Dies In Edenton; Was Hertford Native Mrs. Margaret Skinner White, of Edenton, sister of Mrs. Annie Chalk, Mrs. A. W. Hefren and Charles Skinner, of Hertford, died at her residence Tuesday afternoon follow ing a long illness. Mrs. White, 62, was a native of Hertford, but had lived in Edenton for 39 years. Funeral services were held at the Edenton-Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, the Rev erend E. L. Wells, pastor, officiat ing. Interment was in Beaver Hill Cemtery. " 'A Youngsters Organize Junior Music Club Thirty-eight music-loving young sters met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. R. M. Riddick, Direc tor, and organized a Junior Music Club. Officers elected were: Presi dent, Barbara Winslow; "vice presi dent, Christine Matthews; secretary, Barbara Gault, and treasurer-counselor, Mrs. R. M. Riddick. A varied musical program was rendered, presented by piano, ukulele and flute players, after which re freshments were served.
