ISubmitted by Mr. Winslow for en i trance in the third annual North Carolona Artists' Exhibition, the ptctilre, entitled "The Mimosa in Bloom," was highly praised by Fran ces Speight, noted North Carolina artist who was called from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, to judge the pictures. Of the 131 paintings offered for display at Chapel Hill, Mr. Winslow's picture was one of the 59 chosen to remain on display there from March 3 . to 25, when thousands of persons will visit Chapel Hill to view the display. Mr. Winslow was well-pleased to learn on a recent trip there that his picture was in the last five consider ed in the selection of two the firm purchased and reports that Mr. Speight had a hard time passing over the Winslow picture as one of the two best in the show. The painting is a landscape scene of the blooming mimosa trees at the old Swain home on Mackeys road to Plymouth, which he painted amid tiie swirls of dust stirred up by motorists, last summer ; on their way to Albemarle Beach. ; Only paintings in oils,' water colors, drawings, pastels and prints by na tives or two-year residents of North Carolina who are amateur artists were eligible, for entry in the Chapel Hill shew, v J- RFTTVfnERE NEWS Mr. and Mrs. H. Of the five whom street talk mentions, only two have given this newspaper reason to count them as candidates; but waiting for some thing or other they have delayed the announcing date. Some will drop by the wayside before the filings close, but it is a safe bet that five candidates will be in at the primary ... if not seven. As yet, no competition has hove into sight for Judge J. Granberry Tucker's post as Recorder of county court. He annouiiced intentions of seeking re-election two weeks ago. From FarkviUe Township comes today an announcement from E.
