ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB Mrs. Charles Williford charmingfly entertained her bridge club last Wednesday evening at her home on Dobb Street. Those playing were Mesdames H. C. Stokes, Tommy Jes sup, George W. Barbee, Charles E. Johnson, W. H. Pitt, Miss Helen Morgan and Miss Mary Sumner. Mrs. Stokes received high scroe prize, Miss Morgan the floating prize and Mrs. Barbee low score prize. The hostess served a dainty sweet course. HOSTESS AT BRIDGE Mrs. Silas Whed.bee entertained a few friends at bridge last Friday evening. Those playing were: Mes dames Charles Williford, Charles Whedbee, C. R. Holmes, J. G. Rob erson, R. M. Riddick, George Barbee, T. P. Brinn, Trim Wilson, T. B. Sumner, Oscar Felton, S. M. Wha ley, and Miss Kate Blanchard. Mrs. Holmes made high score and received the prize, while the floating prize was presented Mrs. Charles Whed bee. A sweet course was served. HOSTESS TO ROOK CLUB Mrs. Durwood Reed delightfully entertained her Rook Club at hei home last Friday evening. Those playing were: Mesdame3 C. E. Can non, Ed Harrell, Tommy Jessup, A. T. Lane, J. E. Morris, C. P. Skin ner, Joe Towe, G. R. Tucker, and Julian White, Misses Elizabeth Knowles and Mary Sumner. Mrs. Vivian Matthews was a guest, but did not play. Mrs. Morris won high score prize, Mrs. Lane prize for low score, and the floating prize went to Mrs. White. The hostess served a delicious salad course. BUSY BEE CLUB MEETS The Busy Bee- Club of the Junior Class of Winfall Methodist Church held its regular meeting Sunday. The following program was render ed: Opening hymn, "Jesus Love? Even Me;" Bible reading by Dorothy Faye White; prayer by Miss Myrtle Humphlett, who also made an inter esting talk on "Means of Discovering God"; hymn, "Since Je6us Came Into My Heart"; poem by Carolyn True blood; hymn, "Jesus Is Mine." Dis missal was by Horace Baker. BRIDGE CLUB ENTERTAINED Mrs. J. G. Roberson was hostess at a delightful bridge party Tues day evening when she entertained her bridge club. Those playing in cluded Mesdames B. G. Koonce, Durwood Reed, R. M. Riddick, Oscar Felton, E. S. Pierce, J. S. Vick and Miss Kate Blanchard. High score prize was awarded Miss Blanchard, and Mrs. Felton received prize for low score. A delectable sweet course was served by the hostess. OAK GROVE W. M. S. MEETS The Woman's Missionary Society of Oak Grove Methodist Church met on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Elihu Lane. The meeting was open ed by singing "Lord, I Want To Be A Christian." The study for this month is Christian Social Relations Between the Races. A responsive reading was led by Mrs. George Jackson. Mrs. C. P. Quincy gave the lesson, the subject of which was "Blazer of Trails in Inter Racial Un derstanding," after which questions,, were asked and discussed. After a second responsive reading, Mrs. George Jackson gave the Meditation from the World Outlook, and told the group about Marian Anderson, noted singer of the Negro race. Mrs W. W. Lewis read about Dr. Carver, inventor of many uses for the pea nut. Mrs. Lewis also led in prayer. A short business session was then held. Those present were Mesdames P. L. Griffin, Geo. W. Jackson, Edihu Lae, W. W. Lewis, W. H. Overman, Daidy Perry, C. P. Quincy, Emmett Stallings, C. L. Jackson and Lindsey Russell, Misses Alice Ferrell, Gracie Ferrell and Ruby Lane. "Reggie is lost in thought." "Yes, but I don't believe he's worth a relief expedition." Sunday In Suffolk Mr. and Mrs. Ralph White and Miss Edith Matthews were guests of relatives in Suffolk, Va., Sunday. Home For Week-end Mrs. J. R. Summer Vacation Miss Marie Anderson, a student at Flora McDonald School, Red Springs, is with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Anderson, of Belvidere, for the summer. Miss Anderson expects to enroll at W. C. U. N. C, Greens boro, in the fall. Home From School Miss Ellie Mae White, a student at Mars Hill College, is with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. White, for the summer. Here From Fayetteville H. G. Winslow, of Fayetteville, was in town this week. Improving Mrs. C. G. Stephens is reported as somewhat improved. She has been quite ill. To Attend Graduation Mr. and Mrs. Tim Brinn, accompa nied by their daughter, Miss Sarah Brinn, of Jackson, will spend the week-end in Durham, where they will attend graduation of their son, Tim Rufus Brinn, from Duke Uni versity. Attend Banquet Ralph E. White and Charlie Vann attended the regular semi-annual banquet of the D, Pender Grocery Co., held at the Monticello Hotel in Norfolk, Va., Wednesday.
