Their advertisements wilUJbe found throughout the pages of Sis issue. As well as urging patrons to come in and look over the bargains, the mer chants are boosting the fair and co operating to the extent of offering their values as an added inducement to increase the number of farm folks who will onlinarly attend without in ducements. The Crescent Amusement Com pany, engaged by the Fair Associa tion to return to Hertford for the second annual festival, will begin driving stakes and erecting rides merry-go-rounds, ferris wheels, etc. Sunday morning. J. Tweedy Funeral services were held Sunday affernoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roughton in Elizabeth City for Mrs. Ella Ward Tweedy, wife of W. J. Tweedy of Elizabeth City Two favorite hymns of the deceased were sung by members of the Black wpII Memnriall Ranttat Church choir The Reverend J. L. White, pastor of the Blackwell Memorial Church con ducted the short funeral service in the cpurse of which he spoke tenderly of the Christian life of Mrs. Tweedv. her devotion to her Lord and to hei church. Interment was made in Old Hollywood Cemetery. The deceased is nurvived by hei husband, W. J. Tweedy, of Elizabeth City; one sister, Mrs. H. N. Ward, of .Ryland, and one brother, Millard F. Ward, of Edenton, and a number oi neices and nephews. Mrs. Tweedy was found uncon scious in the yard of her home late Friday afternoon, the victim of a severe stroke of paralysis, and with out again regaining consciousness died about 5 o'clock Saturday after noon. Burgess Whitehead, - infielder who made such a great comeback for the Giants this year and who comes from Lewiston, has been se lected to manage one of the two touring teams. While Jimmy Brown, Cardinal infielder, and well remem bered here has tentatively been nam ed manager of the other outfit. He comes from Jamesville. The pitching corps include Kirby Higbee, a power in the National League despite the standing of his and Buck Ross, Norwood boy who hurls for the Athletics, have alreadv indicated they will twirl during the series. Murray O'Flvnn. of Sdo kane, and Buck Marrow, Milwaukee pitcher who hails from Tarboro, are other pitchers une-up. Opposing this formidable group of pitchers, Fields has signed a hard hitting bunch of offensive players headed by Enos Slaughter, Cardinal slugger who comes from Roxboro, and Johnny Rizzo, leading hitter of the Phillies; Willie Duke, leading hitter of the Southern Association and a Raleigh boy; Sam Narroon, of Middlesex, Texas league slugger; and Dusty Cooke, of Fuquay Springs, who now plays with Jersey City. Three major leaguers, Bill Atwood, of the Phillies; Johnny Peacock, Red Sox catcher who is from Tarboro, and Al Evans, of the Senators, who hails from Kenly, are scheduled to do the receiving for the two clubs.
