C., were week-end guests of Mrs. W. E. Hoffler. Return From High Point W. M. Morgan and B. C. Berry will return today (Friday) from High Point, where they attended the furniture show. Weelk-end In Norfolk MLss Nettie Lee Gregory spent the week-end visiting with friends in Norfolk, Va. Hath Visitor Miss Lona Brothers, of Bath, was the guest of Miss Alma Leggett during the week-end. Week-end At Home Miss Sarah Brinn, of Jackson, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Brinn. Washington, N. C, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Knowles. Miss Elizabeth Knowles was taken quite sick while at home and did not return to Washington on Sunday as she had planned. Accepts Position at Simon's Miss Myrtle Umphlett, of Winfall, has accepted a position with Simon's in the Ready-to-Wear Department. Miss Umphlett replaces Miss Mary Elizabeth White, who was married Sunday. Week-end Here Rufus Jackson, of Waynesville and Raleigh, visited Mrs. W. E. Hoffler over the week-end. Attend Inaguration Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hefren left Saturday for Washington, D. C., to visit Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Hodlings worth and Miss Marjorie Hefren. They attended the inauguration of President Roosevelt Monday. Mrs Elmer Wood spent a few days in Norfolk, Va., visiting Mrs. Wally Knight, and Mr. Krifbit. Mrs. Z. V. Harrell, of Eure, vraa the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs James Harrell. ' Mr. and Mrs. Moody Harrell' and son, Marion, spent Thursday night with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mercer, of near Elizabeth City. Mrs. Mary Keaton spent a few days recently visiting Mr. and Mrs. Howard Matthews, in Norfolk, Va. Elmer Wood motored to Norfolk Va., Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Wally Knight. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Wood and Mrs. W. M. Matthews. Mrs. W. M. Matthews spent sev eral days recently in Norfolk, Va., visiting with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. HarreW, Sr., of Norfolk, Va., were visiting here on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Cartwright, and Mrs. J. H. Harrell visited. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harrell, at White Hat. Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Moody Harrell and family visited Mr. and Mrs. George Eure, at White Hat, Sunday after noon. W. Q. Hurdle, of Hurdletown, called on Jesse Harrelll, Monday afternoon. MISSIONARY GROUP MEETS Week-end In Washington' Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Blanchard and son, Billy, spent the week-end in Washington, D. C., with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fergerson, and attend ed the inauguration of President Roosevelt on Monday. Week-end Here Tony Skipper, of Norfolk, Va. spent the week-end in Hertford with his wife, who is now living here. Sunday In Nui-ilk Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Littleton Gibbs spent Sunday in Norfolk, Va. Visiting Parents Miss Sarah Ward, a student at W. C. U. N. HI-Y MEETING The Hi-Y girls held their regular meeting Monday evening at the home of Anne Tucker, with Eva Harris, Janet Murray and Anne Tucker act ing as hostesses. Barco and children, of Hopewell, Va.; Melvin Temple and Junior Temple, of Wash ington, D. C, and Mark Temple, of Newland, spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Lane. Mrs. R. M. White and son, Jay Winslow, returned to their home in Norfolk, Va., Monday after spending several days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Winslow. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Baker and children, of Whiteston, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Winslow on Sunday. Mrs. R. M. Duncan left Friday to visit friends and relatives in Shiloh. Mrs. Lafayette Lane spent Thurs day at Whiteston with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rountree. Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Lane, -Thomas Nixon, Mrs. Anna Lane, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. White spent Sunday in Rocky Mount as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kramer Nixon. Mrs. Anna. Lane remained, for several days' visit. EXECUTIVE GROUP MEETS An executive meeting of members of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Hertford Baptist Church was held Tuesday evening at the home of the president, Mrs. I. A. Ward. Plans for the year's work were discussed. BETHEL CLUB MEETS The Bethel Home Demonstration Club met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. S. I. CulUpher with Mrs. C. E. White and Mrs. E. J. Proctor as hostesses. The meeting was opened by the singing of "A merica, the Beautiful." The Collect was repeated in unison. Mrs. J. J. Phillips gave a program on "Farm and 'Family living." Several mem bers of the .club had part in , the program. Mrs. M. T. Missionary Gociety of the Methodist Church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. L. C. Winslow with Mrs. Dur- wood Reed in charge of the program. Readings were given by Mrs. W. H Pitt and Mrs. Winslow. Mra. C. T. Skinner gave the Scripture. Ten members and two visitors were pres ent. At the conclusion of an inter esting meeting the hostess served refreshments. WOODLAND SOCIETY MEETS The Woman's Society of Chris tian 'Service of Woodland Methodist Church, met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ralph Harrell. Hertford, Route Three. The meeting was opened by all singing "0 Zion Haste." Prayer was offered by Mrs. Mary A. Keaton. After a short business session, the roll was called and the minutes of the previous meeting were read h-i the secretary. Pledge cards were passed out and each member signed her card and made her pledge for the year. Collection taken amounted to $6.20. Mrs. Ralph Harrell conducted the devotional, using as her topic "Shar ing Means to Health." She read from Matthew 9:35-38. Rev. J. D. Cranford offered prayer. Mrs. Har reM also had charge of the following program, the topic being "Investing Our Heritage for Health in the United States." She told of some of the mysteries of our lives. Mrs. Ed die Harrell told of Health in the United States and in our Own Com munities. Mrs. Jack Benton told of What Our Methodists are Doing After the hymn "Give of Your Best to the Master," Mrs. Eddie Harrell conduoted the Spiritual Life pro gram. The Society will meet with Mrc. Jack Benton in February. The hostess served a sweet course. Those present were Mesdames Jack Benton, Eddie Harrell, W. M Matthews, W. H.
