On Sick List Jack Gaskill, State Patrolman, has been confined to his home this past week because of illness, but is now somewhat improved. Home for Week-end Jack Jarvis, student at the Uni versity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Jarvis. Visited in Charlotte Miss Blanche Butler spent last week in Charlotte as the guest of her sister, Miss Mattie Butler. In Durham Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Winslow spent Wednesday in Durham. HOSTESS Td BRIDGE CLUB Mrs. R. M. Riddick charmingly en tertained her bridge club Tuesday evening at her home. Those enjoy ing the evening were Mesdames J. G, Roberson, Herman Winslow, Durwood Reed, Oscar Felton, B. G. Koonce, T. B. Sumner and W. G. Wright. Mrs. Koonce was awarded high score prize and Mrs. Roberson re ceived low. The hostess served a delicious salad course. D. M. Jackson, Carlton Perry, Fred Chalk, Crafton Matthews, E. S. Pierce, Ellie Goodwin, Herbert Nix on, Ralph White, C. P, Morrifj, Ray mond Jordan and Misses, Helen Vick, Maywood Pierce and Mary , Elizabeth Fields. High score prize went to Mrs. Mor gan and Mrs. Matthews received second high. The hostess served a dainty sweet course. ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE W. M. S. MET MONDAY The Woman's Missionary Society of Hertford Baptist Church met on Monday evening at the church with the president, Mrs. I. A. Ward, pre siding. The meeting was opened with the hymn "Let the Lower Light! Be Burning." Mrs. L. W. Norman gave the devotional and an interest ing talk on the lesson taken from the 12th chapter of Acts, the subject being "The Praying Church." Mrs. Joe Ward offered the closing prayer. ALBEMARLE YOUNG PEOPLES MEETING The following young people 'from Hertford were in Elizabeth City on Tuesday evening to attend the Albe marle Young Peoples meeting: Miss es Ann Tucker, Janet Murray, Eliza beth Darden. Barbara Winslow. Beuna Mae Godwin, Mary Field, Mary Elizabeth Fields, Jeannette Fields, Betty Winslow, Helen Mae White, Barbara Gault, Syble Skin ner and Ida Lee White, George Fields, Bill Blanchard and William Landing. The Rev. and Mrs. R. F. Munns also attended. The meeting was held at the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Henry Clay Sullivan was hostess at a delightful bridge party on Friday evening at her home. Her guests included Mrs. George Dale, Mrs. Ernest Stillman, Mrs. T. B Smith, Mrs. Francis Hicks and Miss Agnes Chappell, of Edenton; Misses Marian Morrow, Frances Maness Frances Fowler, Jocelyn Whedbee, Joyce StokeS, Mary Towe, Blanche Everett, Dorcas Knowles, Grace Knowles and Ruth Alice Ward, Mrs. Willis Jessup, Mrs. Herbert Nixon, Mrs. Lucius Blanchard, Jr., Mrs. Agnes Williams and Mrs. C. H. Ed wards. His;h score prize was awarded Miss Towe, second high went to Miss Everett and Mrs. Dale received the floating prize. The hostess served, a dainty salad course. ST. CATHERINE'S AUXILIARY MET TUESDAY EVENING St. Catherine's Auxiliary of Holy Trinity Church met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Clyde McCallum. Those present were Mesdames W. E. White, R. B. Cox, Agnes Williams, James Barber, T. J. Nixon, Sr., W. H. Hud son, Willis Jessup, W. H. Oakie, Nell Whedbee, Miss Jocelyn Whedbee and Miss May Wood Winslow. After the business meeting the hostess served dainty wafers with tea. WHITE HAT NEWS Miss Eunice White was the supper guest of Miss Clarine Eure Saturday evening. Mrs. Freeman Umphlett, Miss Maude Miller and Gladys Rae Um phlett called on Mrs. Raymond Eure Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Davis, of Nor folk, Va., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eure. Miss Gladys Godfrey spent Monday with Misses Clarine and Sarah Jane Eure.
