PAGE SIX THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY, HERTFORD, N. C FRIDAY; OCTOBER 17, 1941 THIS COSINESS Susan thayk H-Ul HISTORY IS MADE AT HOME JjUstory is being made these days. History that men and women will read hundreds of years from now and marvel at, as we read and mar vel at the difficult beginnings of this wonderful country. And it's be ing made in our homes just as surely as it's being made in the factories and camps of America. But how can history be made in your home, you ask? There's noth ing special going on there. Just the usual things . . . three meals a day . . . bed making . . . cleaning ... the washing once a week. But these "usual" things are what men and children, as well as women, live by. They are the comforts and freedoms and associations for which we work and support our government and fight, when it's necessary. Home; It's not only what we work for. It's the thing that supports and stands back of us all. It's where men and women rest and eat and talk and laugh and get ready to go out to do their part in these factories and these camps. It's where children grow strong and intelligent, imbued with ideals of freedom and inde pendence as uncompromising as those of our forefathers. It's where they come at night when they're tired and hungry and puzzled; perhaps disillu sioned at what's going on in the world, to find peace and comfort and Rules of the Road Duty To Report Accidents Section 128, Motor Vehicle Laws of North Carolina "The driver of any vehicle involved in any accident re suiting in injuries or death to any Statement Of The Ownership, Man agement, Circulation, Etc., Requir ed By The Acts of Congress of August 24, 1912, and March 3, 1933. Never .before in all the colorful years of this country's history has home been more important than it is today. Not even in the days when the little' log cabin, on an unfriendly frontier was the last outpost of civi lization; the place where the necessi ties for living, now turned out by our factories, were painfully produced. For today the vital thing to this country is morale; the vision and confidence that our future will be even greater than our past. And this type of morale can only be created in the homes of a country. An important speaker said recent ly, "The eyes, hopes and prayers of free men everywhere are on Ameri can Industry in this world crisis All who oppose the scourge of op pression sweeping out of central Eu rope today look to our factories to American industrial management and American labor to produce the bomb ing planes, the guns and tanks and other weapons of modern war whicn may once more turn the tide in favoi of democracy, peace and freedom." But this Industry, toward which free men are looking, can only func tion at its greatest efficiency if the men and women in it find daily strength and courage in their homes, which it is woman's great, historic destiny to managel person, or property damage to an ap parent extent of ten dollars ($10.00) or more, shall within twenty-four hours file or cause to be filed a re port of such accident with tffe depart ment, except that when such accident occurs within a city such report shall be made within twenty-four hours to the police department of such city. Every police department shall for ward on the fifth day of each month every such report received during the previous calendar month, or a copy thereof, so filed with it to the main office of the department. All acci dent reports shall be made on forms approved by the department ..." This duty to report accidents is one of the most important sections of the Motor Vehicle Laws. Within 24 hours after an accident you must make a written report to the North Carolina Highway Safety Division office in Raleigh if any person has been injured, no matter how slightly, or if the damage done to property seems likely to amount to over $10.00. This means damage done to all cars or property, not only your own car. An accident report must be made even when your car is the only one involved and the injury or property damage affects only yourself. If you have an accident within a city you should report it to the police depart ment, and outside of a city you should report it to the sheriffs office or the State Highway Patrol. These offi cers will file reports with the High way Safety Division, but operators should also make reports. All oper ators' reports are strictly confidential to be used for accident studies and statistical purposes only, and to pre vent, if possible, the occurrence of similar accidents in the future. The more carefully you report an accident the more it will help the state author ities to improve conditions in the highway or traffic signs or regula tions which may help to prevent fu ture accidents of that type.
