(ML SIMONS NIXON Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Nixon wish to announce the marriage of their daughter Sarah Elizabeth, to Pvt. Walter Simons, of Chapanoke, now in the U. IS. A., stationed in Florida. The ceremony was performed on February 28, 1943, at the Methodist parsonage in Winfall, with the Rev. J. D. Cranford officiating. JAMES TURNAGE Miss Edna Turnage, of Greenville and Hertford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Leslie Turnage of 201 Summit Street, Greenville, became the bride of Pfc. David L. James, of Stokes, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. James, on Sunday, March 7, with the Rev. George W. Perry officiating. Private James is located at Camp Breckinbridge, Kentucky. The bride is teaching Vocational Home Economics at Perquimans County High School, where she has been a member of the faculty since graduation from East Carolina Teach ers College in Greenville, in 1941. The hostess served a delicious sweet course. CIRCLE NO. FOUR MEETS Circle No. Four of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Baptist Church met on Monday evening et the home of Mrs. Robert White. The program opened with the hymn, "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name," followed by prayer by Mrs. E. W. Mayes. At roll call thirteen members were present. The topic for the evening was "Building a Right eous Nation." The devotional was given by Mrs. Fred Mathews, after which Mrs. Mark Gregory led in prayer. Those taking part on the program were Mrs. Tom Madre, Mrs. Mark Gregory, Mrs. E. W. Mayes. Miss Mamie Stallings dismissed the C. FRIDAY MARCH 12, 1948 HATTIE meeting with prayer. During the social hour the hostess served refreshments. ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB ' Mrs. J. G. Roberson was a delight ful hostess to members of her bridge club on Tuesday evening. Those playing were Mrs. W. G. Wright, Mrs. Charles Whedbee, Mrs. B. G. Koonce, Miss Kate Blanchard, Mrs. R. M. Riddick, Mrs. Herman Winslow, Mrs. Oscar Kelton, and Mrs, V. N. Darden. High score prize went to Mrs. Felton, with other prizes going to Miss Blanchard and Mrs. Darden. The hostess served a delicious salad course. CIRCLE NO. THREE MEETS Mrs. J. W. Zachary was hostess on Monday evening to Circle No. 3 of the Woman's Missionary Society of Hertford Baptist Church. At roll call eleven members were present. The program opened with the sing ing of a hymn, followed by the de votional, which was given by Mrs. J. W. Ward and Mrs. C. R. Holmes. Those taking part on the program were Mrs. T. L. Jessup and Miss Helen Morgan. Mrs. I. A. Ward dis missed the meeting with prayer. The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. V. N. Darden. During the social hour the hostess served a sweet course. HOSTESS TO ROOK CLUB Mrs. Arthur White was hostess on Tuesday evening to the members of her Rook Club. Mrs. Edgar Fields. Those playing were Mrs. Stallings, Mrs. Fields, Mrs. Houston Edwards, Mrs. Martin Towe, Mrs. Bill White, Mrs. Tom Cox, Mrs. T. W. Tilley and the hostess. During the game drinks and nuts were served and at the close of the game the hostess served a sweet course. "America, the Beautiful" was used as the opening song, after which Mrs. Ellis Stallings led the devotional. The secretary called the roll and read the minutes of the previous meeting. During the business session the ciud decided to give $1 to the I ancer Control Fund.
