A sweet course was served by the hostess. ENTERTAINS ROOK CLUB Mrs. Jim Bass was hostess to her rook club last Tuesday evening at her home. Those playing were Mesdames Martin Towe, L. S. White, Tom Cox, Arthur White, Houston Edwards, Edgar Fields, Jimmy Stall ings, Phil Cochran, Thomas Tilley and Willie Ainsley. Prize for high score went to Mrs. L. S. MEETING The Woman's Christian Temper ance Union held its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. L. C. Winslow. Miss Kate Blanchard con ducted the devotional and read sev eral verses of Scripture. There were interesting readings by members, af ter which a business session was held, Hertford W. C. T. BURGESS CLUB MEETS The Burgess Home Demonstration Club met with Mrs. Tommy Mathews on Wednesday afternoon at her home in Hertford. The president called the meeting to order and read nine verses from the first chapter of Genesis. The American Creed was repeated and "God Bless America" was sung. The roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Each member modeled the dress made for the meeting and Mrs. J. B. Basnight won first prize, with sec ond prize going to Mrs. Sidney Layden. "A Beloved Extension Worker," a tribute to Dr. Jane S. McKimmon, written by a club member from Cas well County, was read by Mrs. J. B. Basnight. Miss Maness made several an nouncements and gave an interesting talk on "Cleaning to Save." Mrs. Tommy Mathews conducted a word-building contest with Mrs. Sid ney Layden winning the prize. Those present were: Mrs. Winston E. Lane, Mrs. J. B.
