Riddick Rites Held
Last Friday Afternoon

. ington .Riddick, 70, who died suddenly
Wednesday night at 8:30 o'clock at
the home of his son, Earl . Riddick,
Hertford, Route One,, were conducted
at the Lynch Funeral Home last Fri
day afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Rev.
J. R. Byerly, pastor of the Burgess
, Baptist Church. !.
During the services the Burgess
Baptist choir aang the Old Rugged
Cross and Good Night and Good Mor
ning Up There. They were accom
panied at the organ by Miss Kate
Blanchard.
Pallbearers were Gilbert Rountree,
Sammy Suttons, Norman Riddick, Jos
eph Proctor, Willie Lane and Moody
Mathews. --..
Burial was in the Bethel Baptist
Cemetery.
Summer Classes To
Start Next Monday
Summer school will open at Per
quimans High School next Monday,
June 13, beginning at nine o'clock, it
was announced today by C. E. Wood
ard, principal, who stated that stu
dents desiring to enroll for full time
credit or make up work may do so.
Mr. Woodard pointed out that this
is the first time in a number of years
that summer classes have been offer
ed at the local school and students
interested in enrolling in classes
should report to him next Monday.

Four Injured In
Wreck Near Winfall
Four Negroes Were injured, two of
them seriously enough to require
hospitalization, in a collision of two
cars on NC Highway 37, one and
half miles west of Winfall, Sunday
night at about 9:30 o'clock, it was
reported by Patrolman H. L. White,
who investigated the accident
Hospitalized were Arlington Eaaon
of Hobbsvdlle and Connie Mercer of
Belcross. Others injured were Liza
bell Copeland, John Manley and Odes
sa Sawyer. Patrolman White stated
that a hearing will be held next Tues
day in connection with the accident.

Byrum, at Center Hill, last Saturday
morning.
Besides hex daughter she is survived
by four sons, Raleigh, and Robert of
Center Hill, and Joe and Tom Perry
of Hertford.
Funeral services were conducted
Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at
the Methodist Church fn Center Hil.
Burial was in the family plot.

ANNIVERSARY DINNER
The children of Mr. and Mrs. T. W.
Nixon were hostesses on Sunday; June
5, at an elaborate dinner served' pic
nic style at the home of Mr. and' Mrs.
Walter Symons, the occasion being
the 43rd wedding anniversary of the
couple.
Tables were arranged on the lawn:
and centered with a lovely 2, tier wed
ding cake in white, pink and green,
around this was a lovely arrangement
of Easter lilies, mums and evergreens.
After a bountiful dinner, the cake
was cut and served with ice cream;
Games, music and sing were enjoy
ed in the afternoon.
The honorees received many lovely
and useful gifts.
