THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY. HERTFORD, N. &, FRIDAY, JULY 30, 1948 Mr. Mussolini Ousted As Leader Of Italy (Continued from Tage One nounced that Badoglio was con ferring with Allied officials about peace terms, but according to Wash ington and London conditions had not yet reached this point. , Mid-week dispatches indicated dis order in some places within Italy, but seemingly the Fascist government has been completely overthrown and the new system installed. It was re ported by an Italian source that the Fascist Grand Council, itself, out voted Mussolini, foreing him to re sign, after he had presented a plan to withdraw his armies from southern and middle Italy to a defense line in the north. Hitler had proposed this plan and Mussolini fell because lie accepted the Nazi theory that Italy could not be defended. Unconfirmed reports state Badog lio has ordered Italian troops, sta tioned in the Balkans and in France to return to the homeland. It is es timated there is some twenty-two Ialian divisions stationed in those points. Authoritative sources believe that unless King Victor and Badoglio can salvage the government and with draw from the war, a general upris )"! within Italy will cause a new government to be formed which will .sue' for peace with the Allies.
