' Several selections of special music were rendered by Tim Stall ings. During the business session, the president, Mrs. Cook, called for the minutes, which were read and ap Droved. She also read a letter from the State President, C. W. Phillips, congratulating the Membership Chair man, Miss Margaret White, on the splendid work accomplished during the membership drive of the Asso ciation. The total number of paid P. T. A. members to date is 481, a 36.2 per cent increase over last year's membership. A large per cent of the rooms reported a hun dred per cent membership. Prizes were awarded by Miss White, first to the room which was' first to report a hundred percent membership dur ing the drive. The seventh grade, T. R. Ainsley's room, and the fourth and fifth grades, Miss Lucile Long's room, tied for this award. A prize was offered to the child in the primary department and to the one in the grammar grade depart-J mend who solicited the most mem bers. These went to Bobby Smith,' second grade, with 11 members to his credit, and Norwood Elliott, sixth grade, with 17 members to his credit. Also, a prize was offered to the room having the largest per cent of membership at the close of the contest. This went to the sixth grade, Miss Margaret White's room. All the awards were presented by Mr. Ainsley. The president continued the busi ness session, calling attention to ar ticles in the P. T. A. Bulletin. Miss Alma Leggett's room, second grade, won the picture for having the largest percentage of parents in attendance, with Mrs. H. R. Wins low's room running a close second. Brinn Mrs- Emma Pike Hendricks, 79, died at her home in Winfall at 8:15 o'clock Sunday morning, after a lin gering illness. Surviving are one son, B. F. Pike; six "grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Epworth Methodist Church by the Rev. J. D. Cranford. The choir sang "Jesus Lover," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." The casket pall was of white lilies, glad ioli and fern. Other floral offerings wfere numerous and beautiful. Pallbearers were: Dink Roberson, J. L. Nixon, Haywood Proctor, W. G. Hollowell, B. H. Ward and J. L. Delaney. RED CROSS REQUESTS 100 WASH CLOTHS BE MADE HERE County Tax listers Getting Cooperation The task of taking tax lists in Perquimans County is progressing rapidly, according to the county tax listers, who this week, report many county residents have cooperated splendidly in the work this year and most of the listing has been done. However, for those who have not yet listed their property for taxes, it is announced that the tax listers will follow their schedule until January 81, which is the final day for listing, and these people are urged to forego the possibility of being penalized and make a point to list their property before the deadline date. Work Stock Clinic Is Being Conducted Today A work stock clinic, under the direction of Dr. G. L. Gilchrist, is being conducted in the county today, L. W. Anderson, county agent, re minded farmers who might be inter ested in attending. The clinic will be conducted at Phillips' Store at Bethel from 9 un til 10 o'clock; at the Town Lot in Hertford from 10:30 until noon, and at the Belvidere Service i Station from 2:30 until 4 o'clock, today. The clinic is being conducted under the supervision of the N. C. State College Extension Service. Elmwood Farms Dairy Closes Out Business The Elmwood Farms Dairy, owned and operated by B. B. Dawson for the past four years, went out of business two weeks ago. The cows of the dairy were sold to the Brite Dairy of Elizabeth ;City, who agreed to furnish milk to J. Oli ver White, Hertford milk distributor. The final closing out of the ctoy took place this week when Mr. Daw. son held a sale and sold the equip ment oi nis dairy. Special Gad Rations For Service Men . As an aid to service men and women who are recovering from Ill ness or wounds received while on ac tive duty, ofa is Bow issuing spec ial gasoline rations for use in travel ing to and from their homes or other places of convalescence. This action was taken at the re quest of the War and Navy Depart ments which said that the use of an automobile may., in some eaaa. M i greatly in a service man's recovery to health. The special ration will ibe issued on presentation of leave papers to a local board-together with a ' letter from the attending medical officer cenwying van transportation by au tomobile, rather than hv nthm- mmm will materially assist in the recovery The local Red Cross Chapter has received a request from National Headquarters for 100 wash cloths to be made, knitted or crocheted by local ladies. This order will complete the 700-piece order requested by the Red Cross. Persons interested in helping fill this order are asked to call Mrs., Silas Whedbee or Mrs. Leigh Winslow for further infor mation.
