Revised dollars-and-cents ceilings
on market basket food items for 54
Eastern North Carolina counties will
be issued next week and will go in
to effect March 13, Theodore S.
Johnson, district director of the
Raleigh office of Price Administra
tion, has announced.
Reason for a revised list now, an
OPA statement explained, is because
numerous staple articles, notably
margarine, macaroni products, peanut
butter, syrups and molasses, have
been given dollars-and-cents Ceil
ings for the first time. Some reduc
tions in the retail prices will result,
ne declared.
Another reason for the revision,
it was said, is that wholesale
cers who have been operating under
OPA price regulations, have also
been put under dollars-and-cents
ceilings on sales to retailers.
The new community price list,
Johnson said, will continue in effect
about three months, conforming to
a uniform, nation-wide program of
revising market basket prices about
iour nmes a year.
To obtain the widest distribution
of the price lists. OPA is m-ovidinc
consumers for the first time a paper-
saving, reduced size list of about
one-fourth the dimensions of the list
posted in stores. The new list is
intended to be folded into ration
book size as a convenience for
shoppers.
Fac-similes of the small size list
will be available to newspapers for
easy reproduction and printing.
